Barrel alignment off on Gen 2 Ruger Precision Rifle

Hey all, I'm a new member here and this is my first post so forgive me if I'm posting in the wrong area etc.. But I have a problem. I recently picked up a Ruger RPR gen 2 chambered in .308. As I was looking it over I noticed what I thought was the handguard being off line with the barrel.. I'm kinda OCD about such things even though I know the handguard alignment wouldn't affect accuracy so long as everything else was ok. So I took the handguard off, reinstalled with care making sure it was properly lined up with the barrel... I then noticed that the handguard now didn't line up with the 20 MOA base.. I took the guard off again and began inspecting the barrel. After making sure there wasn't a live round anywhere in sight, I looked down the barrel from the muzzle back and noticed that the barrel is actually WAY off line with the rest of the rifle... I'm not even sure I could get it sighted in if I took it out to put some rounds through it. Example, Point of impact would probably be a foot or more left at 100 yards if my crosshairs were on target center.. I guess my question now is, what do I do next?? If I'm able to see this issue with my naked eye should I even bother trying to shoot it or just get in touch with Ruger and see what they say.. Any insight would be much appreciated.

Your description is kinda vague. Your handguard alignment won't affect POI. Scope it and shoot it. Then when you have more info call Ruger.

I have a gen one RPR its the same hand guard was like that straight out of the box no big deal its common a quick google search will yield plenty of info. The rail on the hand guard is in my view for "show" optics go on the proper rail on the receiver/action.. If I look from the business end down the toward the breech with the bolt out everything looks "out" its almost an optical illusion. I put one of those laser 308 sighting cases in the breech and set a laser in scope mounts dead center on the rail they both pointed almost exactly in the same place over 50 mts .. Honestly unless they used your rifle as a crowbar to move something at the factory and bent it..just take a big deep breath relax and go shoot the thing. The hand guard is just there to stop your hand getting burnt and make the rifle look "tacticool"..

I don't think you guys read my entire post. The barrel didn't line up with the receiver/base mount.. the handguard was what I noticed first but turned out the issue was larger than that.. Anyhow, I ended up sending it off to Ruger and they have had it for almost 3 weeks. Hoping to hear something back any day now.

We did read in fact you were given three very good separate pieces of advice ..1 call Ruger ..2 put a scope on it and shoot it thus checking what is going on with it.. 3 double check it for yourself as I did with mine after taking the hand guard completely off and looking down from the unloaded business end with the bolt out thinking it "looked"wrong.

I did exactly what you did and the issue was pretty obvious with the guard off, looking down the business end of the rifle. I got a tracking number from Ruger this morning. No notes as to what the tech found or did. Should have it back in about a week

I would with out question have a true Gunsmith or Ruger them self take a look before shooting any rounds though what may be a bent barrel.

All I was trying to tell you was its a common and well documented "problem" with them. I too was a little shocked when after paying double what you pay for one over there mine also appeared to have a barrel out of alignment with the action. On mine hand guard is/was off centre. But was after checking the barrel/receiver alignment with the two laser sights it wasn't actually "bent" even though to the naked eye it looked way out of whack with the hand guard off.. yours could really be "bent" or machined crooked or assembled wrong who knows.. Ruger as always are stepping up as it seems and are fixing it or what ever they are doing to it to make you happy.
