New addition, RAR in 308, with Vortex scope

Ordered, picked up yesterday, major sporting goods store. Left handed bolt, had scope mounted, and bore sighted. Got a cheap hard sided case for it also. 399 for rifle (plus tax = 432.99).
After it came in (7 days) 149 for scope, 20 for scope rings, 29 for hard case, scope mounting free, plus 10% off total, (179.97 before tax, 192.57 with tax) and a coupon for 20 bucks off my next purchase of 100. (which will be ammo, if allowed).
625.56 total

Meant to be a low cost, long range, addition to my collection of 2 handguns and a 12 ga. shotgun. Have not shot a rifle since I was a kid (22 rifle). Guy who did the scope mounting said he just got the Ruger mini 14 the day before and liked it a lot. Had it at the range I use, and said the ranger master said he did the best on iron sights all that day. Looking forward to going soon.

Consider myself a noob with rifles since it has been so long, any advice would be appreciated. I know how to handle and shoot my other guns but rifles are different. Really want to get to know and be good with this gun.

I belive the triggers are adjustable on the American rifles. They are on the Predator models. I adjusted the trigger to be much lighter than it comes out of the box on my Predator, and I really like it now. If you're going to be shooting only at the range (not hunting) I would prefer a really light trigger. If you're going to hunt, a heavier trigger pull might be more safe if you're not too familiar with rifles.

Either way, it sounds like you made a good choice with the RAR. Hope you like it.

Thanks for the info. I did see that it was adjustable in the documentation and on the Ruger video. So far when familiarizing myself with the bolt and safety and trigger it feels really light. I will start at the range and eventually move into hunting, but not till I am proficient enough to handle the gun with a good degree of effectiveness.
Besides the cost, I was attracted to the ease of disassembly for cleaning and adjusting the trigger. The guy who mounted the scope said to put some thread lock on the screws before I put 100 rounds through it. The lifetime, unlimited warranty on the scope is nice.
I will have the book "The Art of the Rifle" coming in the near future.

I have the same rifle with a Vortex scope sitting on it. Absolutely love it. I make rounds with the Nosler 150 gr ballistic tip bullet. Very accurate and fun to shoot.

I am sure you will love the rifle.

Just went and got ammo, sling, targets and cleaning supplies. Looking at range time possibly Thur to Sat. The book "Art of the Rifle" will be here tomorrow. Read up on steel vs brass etc. ammo, different bi and mono pods.
Never set up a scope before, looking into that first and foremost.

Great choices on the rifle and book. I took a RAR 308 compact to the Gunsite 270 rifle class. I really like the rifle and it is quite accurate, seems to have a preference fo Hornady American whitetail ammunition, although I use handloads with Barnes TTSX bullets in 150 grain for hunting.

At Gunsite I did have a problem with the magazines feeding after they were dropped in the dirt for several days. However if you clean them up and put a little silicon spray on them they work "good as new". I discovered this after I got back from Gunsite.
