Smile Ruger Precision Rifle in .308 win

I finally bought my RPR and went to the range today. Shooting Hornady 168 grain A-MAX. got it sighted in at 100 yards then procedded to hit steel out to 500 yards. The Nikon Pro staff 5 with the BDC reticle was right on the money. Cant wait to start reloading and see what this rifle can do.

Mine likes federal 168 smk's. Not bad to shoot when palmetto has them on sale for $20/box. I also run a Nikon but a m308 4-16x. Great optic. Getting about 3/4 moa when I do my part.

And, ain't that trigger one sweet thing. Don't overlook the FGMM 175's. Got the Nikon M308 on it and just seems to be such a natural pairing, for now. Looking at the Burris 5-25x50 (if I remember right) to be able to see far enough. (old phart eyes, don't cha know?)

AND, I just discovered that Ruger has come out with Model 18019, 5.56/223 Rem in the RPR frame. Oh be still, my beating heart. Another 6-8 month waiting game until I can get my hands on one.

Glad I got stuck waiting for the Gen 2 to come out (also in 308) with all the "new" upgrades. I do like the trigger.

I'm just hoping the new Model 18019, 5.56/223 Rem in the RPR frame will handle the Magpul PMags. Can't find anything that says it will for sure.

I have been waiting 8 months for the RPRs to show up in my LGS. Three weeks ago one of my favorite shops got two 6.5 Creeds and a 308 all GEN II. So I bought the 308, love that cartridge!! I bought a Vortex 6X24 50 FFP MOA scope and put it in Vortex rings. I put on a Atlas bipod and a Accu-Shot monopod. I got to the 25 year indoor range last week and put 10 rounds thru it. All inside a 1" square. I live in the Seattle area and you've probably heard about our nonstop rain fall. I have tomorrow and Friday off so am hoping that the rain will stop for 4 hours or more so I can get to the local 100yrd outdoor range. I would really like to get it sighted in at 100yds. Here's a picture of my RPR, nothing special pretty much stock.

I can't imagine that it won't take normal PMags. The person who has a couple dozen mags lying around (me!) will want to use them rather than having to buy new mags for the new rifle.

It would be a huge selling point to utilize normal PMags in my opinion.

I went out to the range today and I was able to get 1/2 inch groups using cheap PPU 168gr BTHP Match ammo. Not bad for ammo my competition shooting friends turn their noses up at.

I'm still planning to buy some of the Federal 168gr SMK, though. The price difference between the two is less than a dollar at a couple places.

Well, It WILL NOT TAKE Magpul/Pmag magazines what so ever. The 5.56/223 has it's own mags that don't even come close to "normal" size AR mags. The RPR 556/223 mags are wider and longer (to take heavier/longer bullets) loaded in the cases. The Magpuls fit like a stick in a bucket.

What really MAKES ME MAD, I called Ruger in Arizona and ASKED THEM if the new RPR would take Magpul mags in 5.56/223 and they said YES they would !!! 10-20-30 round, 2nd or 3rd gen didn't matter.

That's a deal breaker. The price tag was rather steep..... Not interested in a l-o-n-g waiting period like I went through for the RPR Gen II .308.

I have a Rem 700 in .223 that is being modified as we speak. I added an ArchAngel stock and Timney trigger. My gunsmith is currently upgrading the barrel to a 26 inch (25 inch finished) Bartlein barrel which will be fluted. Action to be blueprinted and accurized. The 1:8 twist won't hurt either. The ArchAngel stock requires their own style of magazines, but I bought enough to not worry too much about that point.

According to SWMBO, this mod is my birthday present, anniversary present and christmas present for the next two years.

A bit of a deal breaker for me too (esp after what the factory rep told me). Not to mention I've had trouble with just about ALL aftermarket mags for just about all my Rugers (Except anything Magpul related). You'd a thunk they would have come up with a mag adaptor to cover that and filled one BIG niche from both ends.

NOT real happy about $40. for 10 round mags either.
