Question M77R identification

Meet my twins.

I've had the scoped fella on the left since day one back in 1987, I'm the only owner. I'm sure there are more out there to be had, but I've never seen another like it in the M77 tang safety version, s/n 771-17xxx. The second one on the right showed up for sale 2 weeks ago (outta nowhere) halfway across the state and of course I absolutely jumped at the chance for another one and laid my money down. The s/n 771-68xxx gives this tang safety model a date of 1988.

No boxes, and no literature from either leaves me wondering exactly what I have here. My reference book by Chad Hiddleson of RENE has me thinking the 87 is an M77R-Z, and the 88 an M77R-BZ or possibly a DZ??? I'm very uncertain. That's why I'm posting here. Anyone willing to offer an opinion?

I do have an email in to Ruger looking (hoping really) for clarification. Naturally I will share their feedback when I get it.

For anyone interested - per Ruger CS the answer is:

Serial number 771-17xxx shipped in June of 1987 Model number 7709 and catalog item was M77R-BZ.

Serial number 771-68xxx shipped in June of 1988 model number 7760 and the catalog item was M77R-DZ.

That's a 12 hour turn-around from Ruger on the question I emailed in. That's pretty good in my mind.

Great turnaround, indeed. Are those factory or aftermarket stocks? Nice rifles.

Both original all the way.....they are very striking at first glance. From the history I've read in CH's data book Ruger attempted (unsuccessfully) to checker the laminate stocks. Realizing it wasn't meant to be, they discontinued the attempt and sold X amount of the M77's in the left-over laminate blanks. These 2 rifles came from that effort, and is where the Z, BZ, and DZ designations came from.
