What will your next Precision Rifle barrel be?

My 6.5 CM RPR is shooting 1/2" groups with Hornady 140 gr. ELD-M (Match) factory cartridges. Soon I'll be reloading and expect even better groups.

But when my factory barrel wears out I may get a Proof Research carbon fiber wrapped barrel (5R, of course) or I may try the new DRACOS "Straight Jacket" barrel which has a LIFETIME GUARANTEE!

I know, sounds too-good-to-be-true. But that's what they are advertising. You wear it out and they will replace it free. At $750. for a bolt action barrel is's a lot of money but if it does retain accuracy for, say, 10,000 rounds, you will have saved a lot of money.

I feel both are gimmicks. A rigid barrel is an accurate barrel. A carbon wrapped barrel will NEVER be as rigid as all steel.

As for lifetime guarantee........what exactly does that mean? If you put one on your 6PPC short range benchrest rifle and it shoots .15 groups, are they going to replace it when your groups open to .25? Hell no. If they did that every short range benchrest guy on the planet would be running their barrels, because some replace barrels like we change socks. They have not suddenly run across some magical steel. They are turning down and sleeving YOUR barrel

And while some will disagree, your rifle is not shooting that well now. A 6.5 Creedmoor with 140 grain Hornady MATCH ammo should shoot .25 at 100 yards.............but I will say yours is shooting about as well as can be expected for a factory Ruger barrel.
