RAR 223c issues with steel case.

Hey all, a friend recently purchased a ruger American compact in 223.

When using steel case the bolt becomes hard to work goes forward and chambers fine but when locking in the bolt downward it takes more force then it should.
Works just fine with brass ammo.

Anyone have this issue or know what could be happening and if there is a fix? Thanks!

That has never been an issue for me, and I've shot a lot of Tula ammo through mine. Does it happen all the time?

leave the steel cased Ammo to the CZ 527 Carbines. The steel does not seal in the chamber as well as the brass. You are going to make a ring of crud in there that will start to effect your accuracy and possibly stick a brass casing after firing. Worst case you wind up with a broken casing in the chamber.

If you are having to force chamber a round slow down, that's when Kabooms happen. You aren't saving that much by shooting cheap steel. Feed the gun brass fodder.

Yes it's happening every rime with steel case, never with brass

Understandable that's what we figured on doing if we could find a fix, but it's chambering find bolts going fowars without any issues it's just once it's rotating down.

I have never shot steel case in any firearm I own and as I have no plans to ever purchase an AR, probably never will. To me, the problems resulting from steel case ammo use are just not worth the meager savings seen in purchasing such ammo for consumption in my firearms.

Dump the steel case and go with brass. Steel stuff is only good in Chicom guns.

When you close the bolt it cams the cartridge forward. Whenever you are having to force the bolt down stop.

The CZ Carbines are specifically made to accommodate steel cases. Rugers are not specifically made to and their chambers vary with how worn tooling is or seemingly which day they were made.

You can buy brass 223 ammo from Palmetto State Armory to day for $5.99.

You may want to scrub the barrel really well to see if you can get the carbon ring out.

Were you shooting, lacquer, poly, or zinc coated casings? Did it have a lot of red sealant at the neck? Look closely it could be clear as well.
