RPR Headspace Question
I've owned the RPR in .308 for a few months now, awesome rifle. Shooting Federal Gold Medal Match 175 gr Sierra Matchking, I'm seeing groups typically 1 MOA or less, sometimes in the .6 to .7 MOA. I've noticed in some of my 5 shot groups I often get 1 flier. It could easily be me, but I decided to do some checking of the ammo, etc in preparations of handloading my own.
I purchased a RCBS precision micrometer and check the fired brass. The're a consistent 1.627". SAAMI spec says 1.630 to 1.640. Seems odd the chamber would be .003" below min, Anyone else seen this? Comments?
(a) Micrometer could be defective
(b) Operator error, as in i'm not doing something right
(c) Chamber is actually .003 below min
I checked about 100 rounds of the unfired Federal Gold Medal ammo with the mic and found some variations between 1.629" to 1.623", with the majority in the 1.626 - 1.627. Wondering if some of the case size extremes are causing the fliers on the range?
Also I checked a dozen or so rounds to see how far the bullets are off the lands, seems to be .028" +/- .002
Just curious if anyone else has noticed something similar....
