Question Stocks for Hawkeye .308

Ok, this may get winded.

I am new to rifle shooting, but I am looking to replace the stock on my New Hawkeye in .308. Its the all weather black/ss version. I love this gun and before I bought it I researched it and made my decision likewise. This will be a hunting rifle.

I have sighted it in, but it was windy (15-20mph) and my grouping wasnt what I would like. My issue is not solely accuracy as I know that take practice.

Hogue offers 2 types of over molded stock. Both are pillar bedded. One, however, has a full aluminum bed block and the other has no such block. I was talking to someone today about it and he mentioned that the hogues are "flimsy". He even went as far to say that the pillars were crap and they were so flimsy that you could actually bend them in your hands. He says this is from experience and suggests a mcmillan. Those look nice, but pricewise - hmmmm not so much.

My main question is this: Is the full bed block necessary? Also, if I were to get just the pillar bedded, would I be able to glass bed the lug and action? Is there any way to free float my current barrel (or should it be already?)? I cant slip ANYTHING between the stock and barrel. Is this standard or abnormal?

I like the hogue because of the feel, but a help in accuracy is NEVER a bad thing.

Gunsmith said he can take the creep out of the LC6 without a replacement, so I will do that in the future as well.

Sorry for the long post, but Ive been driving myself crazy looking for answers on this.

If not the Hogue, what others?

Thanks for the patience haha!

I have 2 Hogue rifle stocks on my model 70 Winchesters and I like them a lot, cheap bay far than a Mc Millian and I don't have to wait 6 to 10 months for the rifle stock.

i have a md77 mkii in .300 win mag and a md77 mkii in .308 both came with laminate stocks. ther were both hit and miss in the acuracy department then i put a hogue full alum. block bedded stock on both of them, and a timney trigger. now they are tack drivers. go with the full block. and the stocks free float the barrels too.
