I got a new Hawkeye for myself. I love the rifle but have a question. My gun does not feed the shells right into chamber they hang going in.You can let up on the bolt and they will pop into place and the bolt will close them in. Is this the mag spring? Ruger will fix it but if this only thing wrong I could just change the spring myself.
One other thing does anyone that have one of these rifles notice that the action is a little rougher than other manufactures are? I guess it will wear in no problem.
It is a good rifle it balance well and is well made great gun for the money
Thanks

i would eather send it back to ruger or find a good gunsmith that is up to speed on feeding problems.
a rifle that won't feed is a single shot.
sounds like the rails are a little tight.
hope this helps.
roc did you already take the gun apart and clean it? the reason i ask is because i took mine apart and cleaned it and put the internal box for the magazine well in the wrong way. i had feeding problems and then realized what i did and that fixed it. My bolt is a little stiff too but i figured they build them that way im sure it will work in just right.
No I have not taken it apart. Is this gun bedded? I contacted Ruger they said send it back.I think maybe it could be the mag spring they will send one first maybe and try that. Hope that is all I do not really know never had this problem.
Thanks

Thanks. It shoots good the feed issue is the only problem. Ruger said they will fix it no problem but I would like to get mag spring from them and try that first. Rugers CS has always been good to me.

My new Hawkeye did the same thing. I think its because the rim of the cartridge is not able to easily slide up and center on the boltface. It takes too much effort to slide up past the extractor and it causes the cartridge to get pushed in at an odd angle making it bind on the bottom of the barrel. Mine had some other issues (only one lug engages and the bolt was very stiff) so I sent it in. On a UPS truck right now.
Thanks PRM I sent mine back as well. They said they would take care of it. Actually mine went back to Davidsons as that is where my dealer got it. They paid the freight and offered to replace it. I said no as I have shot a 5 shot group at 1 inch and less and one 3 shot group with all three touching at 100 yards. I wanted to keep this one as I believe I can make it shot it only has about 70-75 rounds through it.

Roc1, when you get it back, post what they did to fix it. Wonder if they have a problem with the bolts? Maybe the extractors are not to spec or something?
I got mine back this week and it works great. They polished the bolt and honed it. The action is slick and it feeds fine now. This gun shoots great shot it the same day I got it back.
