It depends on your liking. Americans rifles are perfect in this regard.

I ran a few Federal Power.Shok 150 grain soft nose today , holes all touching inside a 3/4" bullseye @ 50 yards with much more power than the 147 grain Perfecta FMJ. Will do for deer season , can't wait to develope some loads for it. I do wish the tang safety was not as loud when toggling back and forth makes a loud snap, any tips?

I think this gun/scope combo is a great shooter at a great price, no regrets looking forward to hunting deer and throwing a few down range for sport.
Its my 1st 308 and am happy with this caliber so far , nice to have a wide range of loads available for it.
Mike

I should add the gun mechanically works very well no issues of any kind I really like the action of the bolt, the barrel stays floated on a rest/vise. Will lighten the trigger pull some (which is nice and crisp) after running more rounds through it. And it is a breeze to clean.

I think it will get tighter as I get used to gun and make some adjustments , will really know more when shooting @ 100 yards, have a feeling it can probably outshoot me.

Now try the cold bore accuracy

Once I'm shooting bulls with a warm barrel, I leave it out in the cold overnight.
The next day I take 1 shot, and adjust my optic as needed.

The next day I take 1 shot, and adjust my optic as needed.

Repeat the above process until the first shot is in the center of the bull. no need to worry about an M.O.A. for a hunting rifle.

I benchrest out my barn window, so the 1 shot gig is easy for me, if you have no range local, it becomes hard to do.

100 yards is the benchmark for me. I usually shoot 3 round groups to get an idea of where I'm at with it.

Ruger American barrel channel

I have a first-year production Ruger American (22" barrel) in .308 Winchester. It will shoot into an inch at 100 yds. with 150 grain bullets, but occassionaly throws a flyer out of the group, probably due to barrel heating. Others have had the same problem and blame the flexible forearm on the American touching the free-floated barrel. Before opening up the barrel channel with sandpaper for more clearance, however, I cut a 1 inch piece of green Remington 12 ga. shell casing in half and slipped it between the barrel and the stock. I know these barrels are supposed to be free-floating, but this piece of plastic adds just a little up pressure on the barrel and stops the flexing. Groups are still good, and the flyers are gone. I shoot 5 shot groups.

That's an interesting idea. 5 shot groups are good too. Adds more consistency.
WELCOME to the Forum.
BTW, I usually blame the flyers on myself.
I can usually call the flyer before I see where it hit because I know I pulled the shot.

I bought a Ruger American in .308 about 6 months ago... Picked up a box of Winchester White Box 150gr. softpoints. Took it to the range and the first 5 shot group was 1.15". Worked up some reloads using IMR4064 powder and took it back to the range.. I shot three 3 shot groups at 100 yards that averaged .804, with the smallest going .585". I am very happy with this "cheapo" rifle.. Stock looks like crap, but the little rifle will shoot..

I have the predator, but in 6.5 creedmoor. I have shot 25 three shot groups and the average of those is 0.663". I'm very satisfied with it, but the stock is ugly lol.

With performance like that, I'm sure the aesthetics can be overlooked.

If you do, I'd like to hear your impressions. I've looked at Boyd's online and like the looks of their stocks.
