Single feeding a Ruger American Predator

I've had my new Ruger American Predator out a couple of times, and the one complaint I've got is the feeding of single rounds. I have had flawless results with rounds loaded through the magazine, but if I try and pop one in loose, it always seems to hang up.

Do other people notice this? Is there a fix for it?

Otherwise, I give the Predator two thumbs up with peanut butter clusters.

I've noticed the same thing with my American Ranch Rifle in 5.56. Single feeding is very difficult. I don't know why, but I figure it's just the nature of the beast.

Yep, not sure why but it is an issue with both of mine.
I just load the mag when shooting.

Same here. I tried single feeding (works great on my Sako) but it felt like I was pushing too hard. There were also marks on the brass that looked like extractor cuts so I just load up the mag now. I have found that sometimes the last round in the mag refuses to jump up into position too so I am working on that. I only have the one factory mag and have not found aftermarkets yet. Things are slow to migrate north these days.....

Try contacting Ruger. They Will probably send you a new mag.

Thanks Scattershot. I sent them an email on their "repair/suggestion" site. We'll see what happens from there. I spoke with my son about the single feeding issue on his Ruger, but he has an M77 Hawkeye Target which has a totally different action. He has to push cartridges into his mag (drop plate) before he can chamber them too. Not ideal for bench rest but the thing is so accurate you can live with a little inconvenience, eh?

Hope they do something for you. I don't recall ever having a problem single loading a cartridge before the RARR. The mag works great, though, and even holds six rounds.

I emailed Ruger customer service to see what solutions they might have for the last round not feeding into the action out of the mag mentioned earlier... They recommend that I purchase a new mag from one of their authorized dealers (4 in all of Canada apparently). I called the one closest to me (3 hours on a fast motorcycle), and they told me that they have been sold out of Ruger American mags for a very long time and have not seen any restock from Ruger.. The Dealer DID say that a lot of orders have been held up at the border lately waiting for customs clearance. Maybe Ruger should hire someone from Game of Thrones like Jon Snow to help get parts over the great ice wall into the frozen north.. lol. I guess you don't need the last round in the mag anyway if you do your job with the first one

Sounds like a warranty issue to me, try calling their customer service number and tell them the problem. I can't believe they told you to BUY a magazine.

Their exact response is: "You can check with our Canadian Wholesalers to find retailers who may carry the Ruger magazines". They gave me the contact info for the 4 Ruger authorized wholesalers/repair depots and I called to get numbers for Ruger retailers that might have stock. I don't have too much faith in the warranty game for an "entry level" rifle, and considering that I only paid $389.00 CA for the RAP I can probably afford a $40 magazine... I found a dealer 4 hours north of me that sells a boatload of Rugers yearly. He had the long action mags but no short action in stock. I am a little disappointed in Ruger's response, but mostly because I am old enough to remember what "Customer Service" meant at one time, lol. I am looking for another long action rifle, 7mm Rem Mag, but I think that I will retreat to Sako (Tikka T3) for the next purchase. Passive/aggressive retribution, that is the Canadian way, eh?

I realize you're in Canada, but try this number. They may be able to help. +1-603-865-2442.

Good luck!

My 6.5 rap also has a single feed problem but if you lean it a little on its side it will single feed every time.

Good to know. I'll try that. Thanks.

EDIT: I just tried that with my American Ranch Rifle in .223, and it works! Thanks for the tip.
