Keeping with my new rimfire habit, I hit Cabelas yesterday to round out the collection and picked up an American Rimfire .22 WMR and a Nikon Prostaff 4-12X40 scope. I haven't fired it yet, but it seems to handle very nicely. I may paint the stock (For no good reason at all), but that seems to be about all it "needs". The other two rifles are a Savage 93R17 .17 HMR and an old Marlin Model 60 .22 LR. All day fun, and no sore shoulders!

I'm purely a target shooter, and have been eyeing doing some rimfire competition shooting. My .17 HMR is ridiculously accurate, and I've heard good things about the 22 WMR - mainly that they buck the wind a lot better than a 17 grain bullet! For me, it's just fun, and it's nice to leave a big pile of brass every time I go to the range without being dead broke!

Got out to the range with my new toy, and my Savage 93R17 for comparison. The five shot group is from the .17 HMR (Federal V-Max 17g) and the four shot is from my new American (CCI Maxi-Mag HP). Both were shot from the bench at 100 yards. Pretty happy with it. Did discover that .22 mag Armscor HP ammo is miserably inconsistent and hits about three or four inches low at best. The only "problem" i had was with the new Mueller scope I picked up - your eye has to absolutely perfectly centered, or it blacks out all over the place! The Nikon on the American was awesome.

I was a little amused with the guy next to me with his "tacticool" .338 Lapua talking about mile-shots when his groups were the size of a basketball at 100 yds. Something to be said for hyperactive rimfire ammo - four or five hundred rounds and I can still afford dinner.

I'm buying a Ruger American in .22 also.
My first one will be in .223 (see sig line-- RARR).
After that, I'll get back to .22 lr with a RA Rimfire.

Welcome to the fun house! Great forum here. ;)
Like I said Stone I love mine and the bolt is noticeably smoother after 100 rounds. For a lousy $20 I might spring for the standard stock insert for a little better length of pull. Think Ruger did a decent job with this synthetic.

Howdy guys! I to, have the American in 17 hmr. And love this thing. I've done some modification to it, s/s bolt handle( huge improvement in weight balance in the bolt) a yardage doped scope that I run out to 300 yrd. +. And then the normal stuff. I can't say enough great thing about this riffle.

I have the 22 LR American, really like it. Used to have a 10/22 that I sold, now I'm thinking of getting another or a Charger to share mags and fun with. I have a full stock on mine but bought a compact for when my daughter is old enough (in six or seven years). Very accurate rifle, best trigger I've ever felt.
