Can't speak for anybody elses but I've not had that problem with mine. I have two; a tang safety M77V in 22-250 that I bought new over 30 years ago. Haven't fired it for group size in many years but it always did well in prairie dog town. The other is a more recently aquired M77 MKII in .416 Rigby. Regularly shoots 0.25 inch groups (admittedly at 50 yards) with Hornady 400 gr. solids. I have no complaints about either.

Even Chuck Hawks calls the M77 an accurate rifle. At least he isn't some talking head!

My 77 MK II .243 manufactured in 1999 must be a lemon. I can shoot ( off the bench with sand bags of course)1/2" groups @100yrds. and that is the truth. I'm just getting into reloading but I don't expect to be able to make handloads that will shoot groups like the ones I shoot with Rem. 100grn. corlokt ammo. That gun amazes me every time I shoot it. I tried some Wolf ammo one time and they shot holes that touched each other but 1 1/2" to the right of the Rems. As far as shooting a hunting rifle till the barrel is red, that is just down right dumb as far as I'm concerned. JMO I don't have .243 dies yet, but will def. have some in the future. So if anyone has some recipes for good .243 loads please let me take a look at them. Thanks in advance.

If I ever were to buy another bolt action rifle, it would be an M77
I had a Remington 710, now THAT rifle was CRAP!
I only buy Rugers with the occasional S&W, and I have no interest in a S&W bolt gun.

Of my 15 bolt action rifles, 4 of them are Ruger M77's. I also have a Ruger No. 1. They are all great rifles! My first was a Model 77V (Liberty Model) in .220 Swift that I bought new in 1976. With handloads, I have no trouble shooting 5/8" 5-shot groups at 100yds from the bench rest.
Two of them are Mark II target rifles, one in 6mm PPC and one in .22-250. Both are very accurate (especially the 6mm PPC). My most recent acquisition is a Hawkeye in .257 Roberts. Not only are the Ruger M77's accurate and reliable, they are great looking rifles! |

I had one in 25-06 and it was a deer slayer. didnt group well at 100 yards ,but after trying other brand ammo and different grain bullets found the perfect match and started gettn 1/4 inch groups. It takes time and money, but finding the right ammo will make almost any rifle a tack driver. as far as 77s being junk. total BS !! most solid and smooth action you gona get for a dam good price. only thing missing is a great out the box trigger.. Thats just my 2 cents.
