I'll look no further, this is it for me for sure.

Just what I was looking for.

no wait, on the same catalog page they list a Hawkeye 6.5 Creedmore with
a 28" barrel....hmmmm...decisions, decisions.
Can always get both

FYI: A friend of mine ordered his 6.5 last Monday (7/20/15) and got it last Friday (7/24/15), he lives in Kentucky. He paid $999.00 for it. He told me the 308s are still on order. I think Ruger is pushing the 6.5s.

Just some info to pass.

I was at my dealer today and he said his supplier was still showing not in stock. And I'm in PA. I'm not sure how big an area suppliers cover.

Good news on a quick delivery. And I'm OK with the 6.5 - that's the one I want!

How did you decide on 6.5?

Good question. Seeing as how I am a total newbie to this kind of shooting it certainly wasn't based on my own personal experience or expertise. There seemed to be a lot of positive comments about 6.5 Creedmoor in this thread and from the gun guru I talked to in the gun shop. And I was heavily influenced by the article published in the August American Rifleman. When Ruger invited a bunch of gun writers out to Texas to shoot the new RPR back in April all of the rifles provided were chambered in 6.5 Creedmoor. Presumably Ruger could have mixed it up or picked just 308 Win but they didn't, they went with all 6.5s. The author wrote: "And after putting several hundred rounds downfield, I also came to the opinion the the 6.5 Creedmoor might well be the perfect chambering for this particular rifle." And he goes on to talk about all the magical properties of the 6.5 Creedmoor cartridge - no recoil, half inch groups in targets set up on the moon, free ammo from Washington (Obama Bullets), etc. Stuff like that.

If it turns out I'm wrong then hats off to the marketing department at Ruger for successfully unloading a bunch of 6.5 Creedmoor RPRs right out of the chute... Honestly in my hands it probably doesn't matter which caliber I picked. I have a GSR in 308 and my son shoots a 243 for deer and hogs so of course I had to pick a totally different caliber for this rifle. The other two choices would have made too much sense.

Very good. If I bite on this I'll probably go with the 308 simply because the pile of GSR mags and ammo already on hand. I'm also jonesing for a Springfield M1A which may come first since it's already a well proven platform and also avoid the bleeding edge of RPR first adopters.

Anyone try plastic GSR mags in the precision rifle? Supposedly only metal ones are compatible but i wonder if they work anyhow.

I called Ruger CS and they confirmed it accepts the GSR mags. While I wasn't specific about the poly, neither were they. Anyone buying on that premise would do well to confirm it for themselves.

Ruger Precision Rifle

Just purchased the .308 @ Hoffman's today for $999 + Tax!

I planned on picking up the 6.5 CM but it was on back-order.

Looks like a great rifle!

This has already gotten out of hand for me. I've bought a bipod, a new Burris xtr, dies, brass and factory Hornady 140's. I may not get the rifle until September or later. I should be able to build some starter loads based on range reports. And count the days..... :-(

I certainly hope it's not September.
I picked up the powder, brass and bullets last week. The dies are arriving tomorrow. The bipod is getting ordered shortly and I've already got the scope.
I just got off the phone with my dealer and he said his supplier is still saying no word on when they are getting them in.

It's funny how some of us buy all the components and stuff before we ever get the gun. I seem to do this every time.

I had a threaded 1911 barrel long before I built the gun for it or even bought the suppressor and got the stamp. Brownells had them on sale, so I figured why not? I'll use it.
I need no help enabling myself to get a new gun.

Anticipation... Can't wait either.. Or if you find good deals on reloading for it then you MUST get the rifle to go with it..
