Hello all,
I just acquired a 1979 M77 in 25-06 with heavy barrel and a nice Bushnell Elite scope. Beautiful rifle, but I have seen some accuracy issues. Only had it to the range once so far and in 10 rounds there was quite a bit of inconsistency.
I will admit some of it may be due to me just getting to know the rifle and its trigger. I had one 2 shot group in which the holes touched in the bullseye, but the others spread out to as far as 4 inches at 100 yds. I was shooting factory Hornady American Whitetail 117gr SPBT ammo. It was 36 degrees that morning as well (ammo sat in the truck the night before), so again, maybe I was not at peak condition!!
I have researched some on the forum and it seems like there is a little bit of history of the older M77 barrels being hit or miss on the accuracy. Newer rifles (90s vintage) seem to have improved accuracy.
Just looking for some input from owners of the M77 in 25-06.
Thanks!
