I posted a thread several days ago about a Ruger American, in .243, that would not feed from a full magazine. What I realized, after posting, is that I had fired all the rounds that I had chambered and had not taken the time to cycle a few rounds thru the action and examine them.
So today I cycled 4 rounds, three times and examined them. What I found is that each bullet has from 12 to 20 chatter marks on them. The marks have the same pattern as the bullets canular. Not as deep of course, but the same even spacing and run as far as the lead tip to the canular itself.
Ruger is sending me 2 "tested" mags to try, but with the chatter marks on the bullet I'm beginning to think there might be another problem.
Any input or thoughts?????
I am not set up to post pictures online, just have them on my phone and could message anyone that wants to see it.
Look at the ridges and depressions on the canular of a bullet and visualize the same pattern, only not as deep in depth, running from the bullet tip to the case neck. The bullet tip also has flat spots, which may be from hitting the top of the chamber when the round is striped from the mag.
Hoping this is a mag issue so it won't have to go back to Ruger.
I found out later this afternoon that is was made in 2013. So between then and Jan. 13th, when I bought it, it had been setting at a distributors warehouse and then the dealers shop.
I also found out that since it was "over a year old" that Ruger was not responsible for paying the dealer transfer fee. They said that I could mail the transfer receipt to them and a supervisor would make the decision whether Ruger will reimburse me or not.
I guess that a new, unfired gun from a dealer is not necessarily a new gun to Ruger.
I had thought getting a Ruger American 22 rimfire, but today I found a walnut stocked Marlin 880 in excellent condition, so I got it instead. It's an older JM made Marlin and am looking forward to shooting it. Not interested in another Ruger for a while.
This is an older thread, you may not receive a response, and could be reviving an old thread. Please consider creating a new thread.
