Magnum Research Custom Ruger 10/22 WMR

I have a Ruger 10/22 WMR that I believe was made by Magnum Research (Hogue stock & graphite barrel with stainless ends). It has a Leopold 3x-9x scope on it. I bought it from someone about 15 years ago ... but have not used it much ... until now. I have several questions:

1. How can I tell how old it is ... when Ruger manufactured it or Magnum made it?

2. Does Ruger make extended magazines for it? The standard 9 round magazines are too hard to take out ... and it seems not to work well with after-market magazines.

3. What is its maximum usable range?

Thank you,

Bill

1. If it's Ruger, it'll be marked as such. It'll also have a "290-" serial number prefix. If that's the case, look here: 10/22M serial numbers

2. Ruger does NOT make any magazines other than the standard 9 round ones. Shouldn't be that difficult to remove. No different than the regular 10/22 in that regard. I do believe VQ makes a 25 round one.

3. Maximum useable range depends greatly on what distance you can accurately place shots consistently. The intent makes a difference too. (hunting, target shooting) 100 yds shouldn't be an issue at all.

The Hogue Stock is probably too tight on the sides of the magazine well. A buddy has a Magnum Research 10/22 Magnum in a Hogue Stock and I had to do quite a bit of grinding with a dremel to get the magazines to drop free.

Larry in SD, you are right ... the Hogue stock is tight in the magazine opening. For now, however, instead of cutting this away, I'm going to using the Ruger TriMag 3 magazine holder. It looks a little funny, but the magazine does drop free.

BlkHawk73 the serial number is 290-25305, which puts it shipping somewhere between 1999 and 2001 (its hard to tell since the numbers are not in date order).

Thank you guys for your good responses. I'm going to take the 10/22WMR to the range today and sight it in at at-least 100 yds. (I might even try 200 yds. at some point, depending).

The gun appears to be in great shape (its never been used much), but I'll know more after shooting it today.

Thanks again!

I put 100 round through the Magnum Research Ruger 10/22 WMR yesterday (expensive!) and it worked well. I'm not an experienced, or particularly good rifle shot. But I sighted it in at 100 yards and I got around 2" 10 shot groups about 1 1/2" or so lower than at 25 and 50 yards). I did not try 200 yards because I couldn't see the holes in the paper targets even at 100 yds. ... so the 9x scope seems a little under powered for 200 yards?

Maybe this will help with the stuck mag. It will give you a little more realestate at the bottom of the mag.

Ruger 10/22 Mag Bumper -Single

Not sure if your mags are the same size as the standard BX-1, might want to compare before buying
