New GM 18" Bull Barrel weight and ammo ?

I just recieved my new Green Mountain 18" Blued Bull Barrel. I havent yet installed it, need to get Hogue stock.

Two things I noticed were:

1. The weight. It's pretty freaking heavy. Feels like shooting it free form (no bench resting) is gonna be tiring. I'm hoping thats not the case.
Anyone know the weight spec for this barrel (non-fluted, non-threaded). I couldn't find it anywhere.

2. CCI tactical ammo. Holding the barrel (Unmounted) in my hand, I tried feeding various makes of 22lr into the chamber. They all fit freely except CCI Tactical 22lr.
This ammo has a wax like coating and when I would hand feed it into the chamber, that wax coating scrapes off on the chamber edge and they have a tight fit inside the chamber.
I can see that causing real issues quick. A pile of wax residue would build up along the chamber opening and the bullets would continue to fit in tighter and tighter. The rim would start to seat farther and farther from flush against chamber.

I haven't yet fired these in this new barrel so I can't be sure of the result but I don't like the look of it so far.
Anyone else fired these through Bentz-Chamber?

Hand fed 25 rounds of CCI Tactical

My former 10/22 had a GM barrel, and coupled with a composite stock it was an expensive barbell. That's the main reason I sold it. As I recall I shot mostly Federals as I had a few bricks back then, so I can't say anything about the CCI ammo.

EL Pistoffo, I have a very similar barrel on my bench rest 10/22. My GM barrel is also blued and non-fluted, but is 20" and even heavier than yours. Bentz chambers can be problematic with most ammo. Normal 22 LR high velocity ammo are supposed to have .222" bullets but many have fat bullets. I measured some Remington Golden bullets (bulk pack) as fat as .225". These Rems totally refused to feed. I've also run into feeding problems with premium grade ammo such as CCI Mini-Mags where bullet diameters on some bullets are too fat to chamber.

Your barrel with the Bentz chamber was designed for match grade 22 LR ammo. Match grade bullets are a consistent .221" and chamber very easily plus they are way more accurate than premium grade ammo in a match grade barrel. Match grade ammo is expensive and is "Standard Velocity", rated a 1050 fps compared to cheaper "High Velocity" ammo rated at 1250 fps.

I'm aware of Bentz chamber and Match chamber with Match having even tighter tolerances than the Bentz.

I went through different makes of ammo and tried a whole bunch of rounds of each and they cleared the chamber easily and smoothly with no problems except the CCI Tactical. That stuff has some crummy wax coating for I don't know what reason. You can scrape off with your fingernails.

As far as the GM barrel, I'm second guessing as to if I want to keep it or go with a lighter barrel.

Maybe a trade of some kind of my brand new barrel for lighter one?

All the ammo's I tried that fit well except for the CCI to the right

Well, i've decided to return the GM Barrel for a TacSol lightweight Barrel. This gun is not solely for bench shooting but for more versatile use plus its too heavy for the wife.

Damn thing is heavy and solid enough to be a weapon by itself.

Thanks everyone.
