Are special editions really worth that much? I just bought a normal 10/22 for $239 this afternoon.

What is so special about the special edition?

Not much except that they're prettier maybe and have the Mossy Oak name on them? I know they are very rare. Less than 1000 of them were done and that's all there are of them, so collectability and the Mossy Oak name probably have an impact.

"Collectability" is all determined by the demand. Most of that demand isn;t as a collectable but more as a "hey, I have something different" factor. No real increased collector value of most of the non-cataloged models, especially if they're used. There's been a LOT of different models made with various Mossy Oak finishes and not gather any real collect ability and certainly not a foreseeable investment, especially if used. just to many non-cataloged models across the line.
Now as a personal, "I like this " thing, the non-cat. models are great. They give the consumer a different choice and bring sales to that specific distributor with the contract for them.

All these type of non-cataloged models are simply a variation contracted by a distributor so they can have exclusive sales of a particular variation. They're made in a determined number, normally 1000 units but can be as low as 300 units or in amounts higher than 1000 units.

You could always get a regular 10/22 Takedown and give it camo paint job or hydrodipping, like I did with my 10/22s....

That hydrodipping is a really cool process. With some nice looking results.

I just ordered a couple of these 2 days ago. $379 each. he told me they had about 4 left. Only 500 of these made and this is the only place where you can get this edition.

I got one a couple of weeks ago. I ordered a standard takedown model at my LGS and they sent the camo version with the brown bag. After waiting over 3 months I took it. Actually I like it better than the standard black one. I asked the dealer and he said he didn't know why they sent that model. I got it for $399.00 plus tax.
