Now, I've got nothing against customizing any rifle. I must really be in the minority, though, because I really like my stock 10/22. At first I was not too turned on by the barrel band. But even that has grown on me. It makes a 10/22 instantly recognizable.
i just got mine this summer (early june). i have no desire to customize my 10/22 carbine or my TD. i like them just the way they are. closest i get to wanting to customize is that i MAY buy a used stock off ebay so i can refinish it this winter and play around with different gloss finishes, etc., but that's about it. i don't have anything against marlins-- i've never owned one, shot one, even held one, but people do seem to love them. that's fine. i just know i like my 10/22 for what it provides, not because of everything i can do to it.

Well after shooting 1000+ rounds through mine this weekend, I decided it needs a trigger job. Reason is I felt like I was always tugging the rifle with the trigger which felt like i was fighting the trigger all the way. Made my wrist and finger ache after a few shots . So now waiting for the KIDD trigger kit.

I would do some trigger work using the stock parts.

If you want to customize your 10/22's, I am happy for you for all the enjoyment you will get. But I just wish folks would also appreciate the 10/22 more for what it is. Can you find a better value these days for about $200? I don't care what you buy. You get an awful lot for your money with a 10/22.
I try to be practical to an extent, and I value my money. Therefore I expect a firearm to be at least decent out of the box. I feel if a certain manufacturer can't get the basic fundamentals right the first time, I should probably look elsewhere.

I have nothing against buying legitimate accessories and stuff, that's part of the fun. But I have no interest at this point in heavy modifications, trigger jobs, etc. Not to mention all the potential problems with all that.

So if it's any consolation to you, yes, I can appreciate the 10/22 for what it is, provided what it is is good OTB.

You people are blowing smoke about the sweet 10-22. My old eyes ain't what they used to be, so I finally scoped mine. Shoots a 2" tartget group all day long at 65 yards and does everything IT WAS DESIGNED TO DO! Never ever had a FTF or any other stoppage in the three or four I have owned over the last 30 plus years. Reminds of all the AR15 jocks who tell how their rifle will shoot circles around my Mini-14. Again, never had any kind of stoppage with my Mini and I have owned three of them over time. I sure have seen a lot of AR-15's jam, fail to feed, fail to eject, you name it. Just depends of what rocks your boat I guess. Just don't tell me the most reliable little 22 ever is no good.

Gun snobbery seems to know no bounds. We get 1911 snobs hating Glocks, Glock snobs hating Berettas, AK snobs hating AR's..... and I guess even in the .22 lovers camp we have Marlin snobs hating Rugers. I've never picked up a semi-auto .22 that wasn't pure fun to shoot, so I honestly don't know where it all comes from.

Marlin 60 owners don't hate Rugers. They just say their Marlins are "more accurate out of the box."

They don't have any products out there to customize their rifles, but Marlin 60 owners seem to like their rifles just the way they come from the factory.

I like my 10/22 just as it came from the factory as well, but it seems a lot of guys can't resist the urge to start "upgrading" theirs the minute they bring it home. 1911 and AR owners have the same tendency. If all of these whiz-bang go-fast aftermarket parts didn't exist I wonder where we'd be at this point.
