Beat me to it! Also, Tannerite. You could even put some in your car you're shooting at, or anything really. The key is just use a higher powered rifle.

I was thinking about building a target

piece of wood, drill some holes evenly spaced along the length of the board, buy some extra long golf tees to put in the holes and set up the junky orange driving range golf balls I sometimes find. I'm also thinking about some small sized gongs I saw for sale on another gun forum.

I made a couple of PVC stands, and tie some rope between them and hang items off, cans, bottles, clays, whatever I have. The desert whereI shoot gets trashed by other shooters, so sometimes I don't even need to use what I bring because others have left garbage everywhere.

I also like bowling pins for my .22's

Ive been a fan of golf balls at about 50 ft with a pistol. Base balls at 100 yds are a good time to. If you are looking for excitement get your hands on some exploding targets and add some of your own juice to them(dismantled fire works add a good kick). I am a firm believer in pack in pack out so what ever you shoot at take it home with you. The mess left behind is why most of those secret spots get shut down.

Therealmfngrinch is an unknown quantity at this point
tannerite is legal in my county.we make our own.PENNIES per pack. aluminum powder from screen printing and 41-0-0 ammonium nitrate.2 teaspoons or less per half lb. of nitrate(gardening fertilizer nitrogen all that This is)mix in bag at site of explosion, and wrap in duck tape .1250 fps takes to detonate and softer rounds give more bang. fmj are worst choice.use your brain and dont mix till ready to shoot. BOOM! HUDREDS OF TIMES FOR LESS THAN 40 BUCKS. this is binary compound and cannot be detonated without 1250fps impact or actual detonator primer or something of the sort

They now make Tannerite targets that can be detonated with .22 LR. Gander Mountain, among others sells it.

Wine boxes make great targets. They are the right size to staple paper targets on and they cah be hung or just set up on the ground against some kind of backstop. Plus you get to drink the wine. I kind of like a couple of glasses of cheap Merlot every night.

You got that right! In our (wife, I and the kids) younger years, we spent many a weekend cleaning up areas that look like this....only to see it look the same in a very short time. Frustrating!!!

Zucchini is plentiful this time of year and I can't think of a better target.

I prefer reactive shooting over putting holes in paper. Shooting AA White Flyers (skeet) is alot of fun too. I hang the Flyers from a 6' section of angle iron 1' on center. The Flyers hang from flat stock tabs welded to the angle iron. I also hang 1/2" AR 500 steel gong targets on the same angle iron using chain. The angle iron is supported by saw-horse ends that fold. You get the brackets at Home Depot. The legs are 4'.

Balloons are good. 5 gallon bucket w/ long rope tied to the handle. One person drags the bucket toward the shooter. Simulates a dog attack. Don't shoot behind firing line. We only do this with handguns with 1 round in the gun. Its a hoot and not that easy to do.

For my .22s, I always keep a bottle of outdated 'Tums' around. Stand them up on edge on a 2x4 at about 30 - 40 feet with iron sights. I used to shoot my Ruger .22 Single Six in my basement using CB longs into a bullet trap. I would stand up a couple of 'Tums' in the bullet trap at 20 feet...pretty challenging, and you get a nice cloud of white smoke when you hit the 'Tums'
