Does a new stock mean a new barrel?

Hello All,
I'm new to the .22 world but absolutely love it! I recently bought a hogue overmolded stock for my synthetic ruger 10/22 which seems to be for a larger bull barrel. I'm wondering if I get the new stock put on, so I need to have an aftermarket barrel? Or can I leave everything else the same for now and just put the stock on? Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

Well if the stock is made for a bull barrel and you have a regular tapered barrel i would think you would need the bull barrel or it would fit and look weird but you should still be able to put it on since the regular barrel isnt as thick as the bull barrel but its probably going to look bad.

i agree with the Canadian .. just look weird until you got the bull ..

You bought a stock for a .920" "Bull Barrel".

I'm fairly certain that Hogue or other manufacturers make stocks for the factory tapered barrel.

Now you have an excuse to get a differet barrel!

I've got a Hogue stock on my stainless steel 10/22 with the original barrel and it fits just fine. If you've got the bull barrel stock and don't like the bigger gap between stock and barrel, you can buy a bull barrel, but there's no other reason to switch barrels if you don't want to.

Thanks!

I thought I'd heard it would shoot, but look funny in regards to the "floating barrel". Originally I was planning on building out the synthetic, so I ordered some parts for it. Then about a week later I get shown a custom build that came in....Pretty much everything I'd want to do to it, for about the price of a new barrel!! It's a sweet rig, and now I'm thinking I'll just use the synthetic as a starter for some gunsmith/hobbying/tinkering DIY.

Bull Barrel Rec's

Can anyone recommend a good bull barrel? I had all but ordered one from Cabela's, but the reviews were pretty awful.

I don't think you beat a Whistle Pig aluminum barrel. Because problem with it is it is too light! But if you are going to carry the rifle around it is great. I have several 1 to 2 inch groups at 100 meters!! Off the bench of course.

WP's are great - have 4 or 5 currently and will have more. What direction is determined by budget and expectations. There is better but it's all on how serious one wants to get.

I have the same exact thing as you! I wouldn't rush to get the barrel, you don't need it. Besides the gap between the stock and barrel, the rifle shoots the exact same. I don't mind the gap, bu that's just me.

And if you are going to get a Bull Barrel, (like i am), I would look into Green Mountain. Very good Barrels for the price.

Oh and if your looking for a cheap bull barrel, Search "Keystone Arms 10 22 Bull Barrel" on eBay. 100 Dollars for a non fluted black bull barrel. No idea of the quality but a very good price!!

Regardless of price, I'd certainly want some sort of quality expectation. Cheap is not always the best route to follow. Then again, the highest price doesn't necessarily mean it's the best either.
