Hi All, I did find the extra 10 rounders for the 10/22 #s are 90005 for the black plastic and 90223 for the clear plastic. Firearmsforyou.com has them for $12.65 and $14.06 respectively, with shipping being actual cost. Have bought there before and all was fine. Ron

Been thinking of getting a 10-22/10-22 takedown since my kid found a mag in a turn in car at work. The thing I am curious about is what type of ammo works or doesn't work in them both?

I have 4 10/22s one of which is a Take Down. The mechanism in the TD is essentially the same, and the action is exactly the same. So no difference in how the rifle shoots various types of ammo.
I have tried many different brands of 22 ammo and not found any ammo that any of my 10/22s will not shoot reliably. There are big differences in how dirty the ammo is. Remington Golden is particularly filthy in my experience and necessitates removing the charging handle to clean around the bolt area. But even that crapola cycles fine. Personally I have pretty much standardized on Federal Blue Box bulk 525. It is pretty accurate and very clean. And cheap. I zeroed my sights on my 10/22s using Federal and when the Zombies come that is what I have stockpiled.
All 4 of my 10/22s seem happy to shoot any ammo I can lay my hands on. Zombies beware. |

My take down has not been very picky with the 10 round mags and after fixing the Mag well the 25's are good as well mostly i feed her Federal Champion.

Mine's a boat gun; I used it a couple weekends ago on a jetski camping trip and we had a blast. I tried a scope on it first then went with an inexpensive NcStar red dot/laser combo and it's great fun! Quick detachable so I can pack everything up easily yet seems to hold zero close enough for casual plinking. I don't worry too much about salt water corrosion; just wipe it down after using and a good cleaning when I get home. I was working on a trigger on one of my other 10/22's tonight and installed the Volquartsen hammer kit and auto bolt release. I like it so well that I'm going to order another one for my takedown; it cut the trigger pull from over 72 ounces (as far as my guage will go) to just 44 oz. I put an extended bolt handle on and will be adding the Tactical Solutions extended mag release lever as well...then I should be done modifying my TD....although I keep thinking I can modify a Butler Creek folding stock to fit the TD... |

look arround there are quite a few "custom" stocks on Take Downs over at RimfireCentral.com. I think there is at least an ATI folder takdown, so you might get the idea of how and whats all involved.

SHTF scenario so my wife could carry. So much fun shooting, she might have to carry my LAR-15.

I have my SR22P, except i dont consider it a Bug out Gun or even a back up to the back up Yet!
The problem is i cannot shoot it and have it be reliable. I cannot count on my SR22P for reliability. I want to be able to shoot 500 rounds through any gun before having to take it down for a cleaning
The SR22P is the only gun i have that gives up reliability in a short time at the range, it gets dirty very Quickly, and there goes its accuracy and reliability.
I have been testing some difference ammo through The SR22P, I have some Federal Blue Box (this should be a cleaner & more reliable ammo)to shoot through it next trip to the range.
I bought my 10/22TD, a long with my 22/45LITE as a
Bug out gun Duo, Hunting small game, target, & plinker.

I bought mine as a "always in m truck gun". Since gun racks seem to most a redneck thing. One poster said the BIG RED LOGO made it a little less discreet, I took mine and had a Harley Davidson patch sewn on. Now laying in the back seat of truck no one pays it any attention. I also put a picatinny rail from KIDD on mine with a Sun Optic 2-6x28 on it. Made a couple of mods to it, tig welded one side of the rail, so it would ZERO everytime I mounted the scope. Re-threaded the base to accept long screws and put wing nuts on them to make it a quick mount. Put it on and took it off 10 times through each shoot of the mag when finished and it holds true for a survival application. Also bought the SR22P to go in the bag with it. 3 BX25 mags loaded, 1 10 round for the 10/22, 2 10 round mags for the SR22. 105 rounds in the bag ready to roll all the time.

Lethal Threat
Nice TD good idea on the Bag.
I want to add a scope to my TD, But i also want to keep it as light as possible.
I am also looking for a scope that that will be at the right height so I can get a good cheek weld, and i can see really well through it.
I was thinking a Nikon scope, i guess ill have to do some research

My girlfriend got the TD mainly as a range gun. What really sold her on it was the fact that it breaks down in half and it comes with that nice carry case. I like it because it pairs nicely with my SR22P (which fits nicely in the outer pocket of the TD's carry bag) and it can be used as a SHTF/bug out/survival scenario.

Mine is both. I bought it because of portability but I shoot the heck out of it just cause I can. I LOVE it. I can toss it in the truck and take off, go camping, or just hang out in my backyard and plink. However, my 25 round is sorta "loose," and I guess it's the mag well? Anyone know how to correct this? It works ok if I hold it just right, but is kind of a pain.

Hey Pyronin
I use only BX-25 Mags and mine were pretty loose too in my older 10/22 Carbine,
but my new 10/22TD the BX-25 mags are tight for now but i am sure will loosen with time
On my Older 10/22 Carbine i Put a couple of Nylon set screws in the back (inside the Magwell) Barrel Mount screw holes.
I did NOT remove my Barrel Mounting screws, I just screwed the nylon screw into the hole inside the magwell blue loctited them, tried it and adjusted so that they took out most of the slop, but still had enough movement to remove the mags.
Worked great for me
