| 10/22 Takedown US Shooting Team
I just found one of the special addition 10/22 takedown and got it for $342. I have a few question to ask. I haven't decided if I want to shoot it or not. Should I? If I decided not to shoot it, should I not even clean and oil it? I have a regular 10/22 that I shoot, but I have never had a rifle that was a collectors item. If anyone has one of these, tell me what you plan to do with your. I noticed the bolt was back on mine when I took it out of the bag. I was wondering if I should leave it that way or maybe it is supposed to be back when the two parts are not together? I really don't like having something just to look at.
Thanks

Everyone looks at this differently. When I pass on, I want everyone to look at each of my guns and say "he wore this one out too". Thats why I bought them.

do you have a sense of how many of them they're making? i'm sure it's a limited edition, but i guess my question would be "how limited?" i have a hunch they're probably making a bunch, but i really don't know. if you don't know how many, it might be worth a quick call to ruger to ask what their production goals are for it. if it's not REALLY limited i doubt it's worth much more than a regular takedown, but that's strictly a guess.

5000 were made, so not too limited.

I seen a survey that said that there are about 470,000,000 guns in the US and about 330,000,000 people. So I figured that 5000 guns into the people would be one for every 66000 people. So if I have one I might be the only one in my whole city to have one. That sounds limited to me.

Here's the way I look at it... Can you afford to have something "just to look at" that cost $342? If so, then get yourself some kind of cool case for it and stick it on display. You could always hang on to it for 2 years and see what they're going for on Gunbroker. If, at that time, they're still readily available and not commanding a premium, take it out and shoot it. I don't own guns that I don't shoot. But that's because my wife hates guns and what I do have is limited so I'm careful to only buy what I plan to shoot. Also, I can't really afford to spend $X00 on something that will just be a conversation piece because I just don't know that many people to converse with about said item. I've got some artwork that I paid nearly $500 for and no one ever even sees it. It's worthless to other people, but I loved it and had to have it so I bought it. My house is full of hand-pulled screen prints that I paid anywhere from $10 to $300 for. I buy art to look at. I buy guns to shoot.
If I were you, I'd hang on to it for a little while, see if a demand develops. If not, shoot it. In the meantime, get yourself a regular 10/22 Takedown so you can get the "takedown" thing out of your system while preserving this one.
The best thing that I gather from this is that Ruger is making the TD stocks in different colors. Which is AWESOME. Because that means that we'll probably have some cool stocks and accessories to look forward to in the future.
Sure is a neat gun with the blue stock. Enjoy it however you decide to do so...

It'll be a looong time before it's a "collector's item" to the point where it's seen any significant value change. If you bought it to shoot, by all means shoot it. I certainly see them as one to use as desired as it's not one to see any increase in value for quite some time.
The shoot or don't shoot...kinda is a pre-purchase decision. |

I'd just go and shoot it. Aside from the different color stock, I don't see any major difference between this and the regular takedown. Just my 2 cents.

Never understood the reason for collecting just to pass down. I say use it enjoy pass it down with some stories and memories to go with it.

I guess after all these replies to just shoot it, I was thinking it might be worth more not to. I guess the only real difference between it and the regular 10/22 takedown is the blue stock, the red bag with the US shooting team emblem, and the serial number with the word Gold and one of 5000 numbers. Maybe the regular ones have numbers like that on them I don't know. There is one thing that the distributer/dealer said that he had sold two to Sarah Palin. I guess, anyway I'm in good company if thats true.

And the good part is, you can't really wear these guns out. You only break them in good for the next generation.
I want my kids and grandkids to say: "Dad sure took good care of these guns that he shot all the time!" ... |

Its limited to 5,000 rifles but the demand is only about 5,000 and I don't see the demand increasing all that much in the next 20, 30, or 40 years.
I would shoot it but if you choose not to make sure you save all paperwork and boxes and keep them in mint condition. This means no handling them and getting oil from your hands on them and keep them where they never see the light of day.

HI, I am new to the Ruger forum and Ruger family of firearms. I just got the 10/22 takedown US Team Edition and I am going to shoot it. I am currently looking for a scope that will fit and i can keep on it and also fit in the carry bag. A compact scope that is. I shoot anywhere from 25-100 yards. Anyone have any suggestions. Thanks.
