Tactical advantage of a 10/22?

I was looking at my rifle, thinking of 10/22's I've had before, and looking at the multitude of pics on the web and was wondering if there was really an advantage of a tatical 10/22? Don't get me wrong, the flat black and camo versions I've seen look awesome, I'm not dogging the style. When I see a pic of a well built 10/22 tactical it looks like a .308 should be flying out of the barrel. I thought, "once I get approved to add a silencer, I can really deal with the squirrel hostage situations that may arise out in the back woods behind the house". Little turds keep finding ways into my attic. If I do go the tactical route I'm contemplating either a solid OD green, multi-cam, or just a base coat and use local grasses to mask different colors over it.
SInce I joined here I've been looking at pics, you guys have really set up some classy looking rifles.

I think with this one I will probably sell the Fajen target stock and swith to an OD Hogue stock. A dealer buddy I have will Duracoat the metal parts, scope and bipod, then I'll be all set. The Fajen is nice but not really my style.

i'll agree with what some earlier posters have said. i'm still pretty new to the whole firearms community, but i like the look of my 10/22s pretty much the way they are. only thing i'm thinking about is buying a wooden stock cheap on ebay and doing a nice refinishing job. i don't know why, but i just love the deep rich look of a glossy-finished wooden stock. as for tactical, i don't feel like i need it. i guess in the zombie apocalypse scenario so many bring up in relation to tactical stuff, if that ever happens i think i'll just be glad i have a few semi-autos.

Why not? Tactical is something to be used short term to gain an advantage. Small quick and allows for easy maneuverable.

1. I was USMC trained with an m-16 but could use a 10/22 just as affective.
2. You can carry hundreds of more rounds of .22 than you can of .223
3. M-16 and 10/22 both semi auto.
4. Both can hold 25 rounds in a clip.
5. Some say 22 isn't big enough caliber but if they got hit in the face with one I guaranteeing it would be a bad day.

If all I had to defend my house with was a 10 22 I am confident the bad guys would wish they picked a different house.

I think movies have fooled people into thinking they are Rambo and all bad guys are the Terminator. In real life the bad guys don't keep coming after being shot 10 times buy a glock. If they get hit once with anything they usually run if they can.

I am thinking about a Knoxx Axiom stock....I have heard the front end can be a little flimsy but I figure if I fill it with expanding foam that will fix that problem and still make a good looking 10-22 but not so tactical as varmint sniperish.

For me it's more for giggles than anything else. But honestly I could see being able to tote around 500 rounds of ammunition pretty handy. That being said my next ruger is most likely going to be a plain jane 10/22 compact.

As far as rails go I like the idea of a universal rail size on all my firearms. Why not be able to swap everything from gun to gun if you had to?

If found in a tactical situation, we would be arming ourselves with our SR556's, Gunsite Scout, or a 12ga, depending on the situation.

If somehow forced into a situation where we could only use one of the 10/22's, my solution to making it "tactical" would be loading it with one of the BX25's.

One word: Stingers. You dress up a 10/22 and shoot stingers the zombies will be impressed. I would not want to be shot with a stinger at 50 yards from a 10/22. But if that's how I'm going to die, hopefully I'll get a head shot. The thought of getting in the car and going to the ER so I can bleed to death from a hidious stinger wound does not sound fun

Interesting item on you-tube. Stated that you needed enough foot pounds of energy to penetrate a 1/2" pine board to duplicate the effect on a human body with a .22 cal. LR
They started at 50 ft. or so and went back as far as 440yds. The bullet still had the energy to penetrate the 1/2" board. So much for the power of the lowly .22 cal. LR.That said, although not lethal, definitely an attention getter!

i don't know-- i'm guessing most of my gut doesn't have the stopping effect of 1/2 of wood of a 22 round. lethal would depend on where, from how far, how long until medical care, and a host of other variables, as would most any other round. shocking the number of people killed by 22 rounds. i think people under-estimate it's lethality and a number have sadly paid dearly for that.

"Tactical advantage of a 10/22" is NOT the same as "Advantage of a tactical 10/22".

I'll take the former ...by the time you have bolted all of the 'tacticool' crap onto a 10/22 you have LOST the advantage.

In an bad situation I can keep someone REAL busy "duckin, steppin and fetchin" with a 10/22. It would be worse than a swarm of pissed off hornets.

My favorite right now is a fairly new 10/22 carbine with an old walnut stock I picked up at a gun show, I put a Bushnell TSR 25 red dot on it. Pretty sweet. I'm in the market for another walnut stock for another rifle. It has the Williams peep sight on it, it's fun also and more accurate than you might think.
The "tactical" is on my list, just haven't got there yet. I may do the M-1 carbine treatment to one first, does it count as tactical?

The problem with the 10/22 is that you need to buy a half dozen at a time.

I here you on having to buy a dozen of them...that is funny...maybe not... :D

I have the original walnut deluxe sporter in mint condition taken off my 10/22...

Was considering selling it...but am actually pretty attached to it... :D

Have a right-handed thumb hole stock now...but considering giving left-handed shooting a try...if that works out I am going to use the original stock again and will have to channel it for a .92 barrel...

Anyway is that the stock you were referring to...if left-handed shooting doesn't pan out I might sell it...

FYI...there is at least one online retailer who sells the sporter deluxe stock nib from Ruger for $134...

And I have seen them SOLD at ebay for that amount nib also...

There are not many used ones around for sale...people tend to keep them... :D
