| 10/22 Take Down
Believe it or not, I've never owned or shot a 10/22. I never felt the need for one. But this take down model has caught my eye. It's something I could keep in the back of my SUV in case the apocalypse happens while I'm in Safeway. I figure it would make a great little varmit/small game rifle. Plus you can't beat the price for plinking ammo.
What do you guys think about them and is there something else I should know or consider?
The reason I like the take down idea is because it doesn't look like a gun when in it's case. And I could stash a few hundred rounds of .22lr almost anywhere.

I also like the concept of the TD, but don't have one yet so no experience to share.
But you've never had a 10/22? Can paracord be made into a noose? |

i'm new to firearm ownership as of early june, and my first purchase was a 10/22. i love it! i've since bought a takedown and love that, too, and you're absolutely right about cheap plinking fun. can't get any cheaper ammo than 22. i think i like shooting my 10/22 carbine just slightly (slightly) more than the takedown, but that's probably because i like the wooden stock more than the synthetic of the takedown. i really do like the takedown a whole lot, though, and it is nice to have the bag, sling it over your shoulder, and be good to go (and of course carry a bunch of ammo, mags, etc.). i love both of mine!

I own 4 10/22s (don't ask me why; I just like 'em) and my Takedown is probably my favorite. Shoots good, looks good, and easy to pack away. I have put down many Zombies with it so I can vouch that you are correct; it is great for the Apocalypse. |

Had my TD to the range for the first time and no problems. It (and the BX25 mags) ate anything I put through it. No misfires or FTFs. It is a FUN gun to shoot!!
You now have two options for the Takedown. There is the regular black and stainless model and the USA Shooting Team model that is blue and stainless with a red case.
You can see it here: Team USA edition takedown

Mark | I've seen the blue one and I like it, but I'm probably going to go with the black one.

Keep in mind that the TD is much easier to clean because it comes apart.

First post here on the Ruger Forum. I've owned countless Rugers over the years and the MkII is by far, my favorite .22 pistol. Have a custom 10/22 with a Boyd thumbhole stock and Butler Creek SS fluted bbl and recently picked up the 10/22 takedown at a local gun show. Great concept but hated the skinny plastic stock. I've waited patiently for aftermarket stocks but nothing interesting appeared to date so I picked up a lightly used birch wood stock that was stained blue and went to work on it today. I'm liking it a lot better already!
The gap is a little large and I may work on that some yet. Still, feels much better in wood!

One thing I want to do to my Takedown is put a wood stock on it. I think the wood looks much better than plastic.

I have the 10/22TD it is a Great gun.
The Plastic stock that comes with it is durable and Light, and Black, so it would be harder to see.
I have Long radius sights Williams Ace in the Hole sights they a Great.
The 10/22TD is Very accurate, it is as accurate as my Highly Modified 10/22 Carbine.
Get the TD, I would, if I did Not already have it, especially knowing what i know about it now

Get the TD, I would, if I did already have it, knowing what i know about it | Not worried about being "harder to see". The SS bbl pretty much negates that anyways. I shot for years using an Anchutz 1813 super-match in .22 cal that weighed in at 17lbs. I'm conditioned to appreciate the extra heft and like some substance to my rifles. For me, the extra weight equals more stability. If I wanted light, I'll resort to my pistols. Further, the plastic stock with the TD offered very little in the way of a solid cheek weld not to mention feeling the hollowness of it. As a plus, I now have a TD model no one else has! |
