| Defective TAKEDOWN Magazine Well / Stock
I bought several 10/22 Takedowns a few weeks ago and just shot a few hundred rounds through each. While cleaning I noticed that there is deterioration or "chipping" on the stock in the magazine well on all of stocks. I looked at my standard old synthethic 10/22 which has had thousands of rounds though it and there is no sign of wear. Will the members with the takedowns look at their mag well and check for abnormal wear. It is "chipping" in the middle of the well where an edge from the magazine would not contact it? Any ideas? I called Ruger today and they hadn't recieved any calls on this as of yet.

New one for me to hear of. Unless there was some mechanical issue it would cause, I wouldn't be worrying. After all, it is a takedown, and designed and intend for actual use in what's typically not so silky smooth conditions.

What bothers me is the quick deterioration on the stocks and it's happening on BOTH of my takedowns and not my other composite stock 10/22's?

Can you post a photo so we know what to look for and where to look? It would help identify the problem.
Thanks

| Defective takedown stocks
I also picked up a 10/22 takedown a earlier this summer and I have noticed after taking it out a few times that the area of the stock where the magazine enters is chipping on both sides. As stated by another member the gun does shoot fine. But that it not the issue, there is no reason that the stock should be chipping with normal, minimal use. I emailed ruger customer service today to see if they had gotten reports of this problem and ask what is causing it. I will let you know when I hear back.

I noticed on my TD that the well edge was rough and fairly sharp from the mold (I think). I just took a small file to the edge to smooth it out. There may have been some very minor chipping but it can't be seen after the filing. It appears to be a quick and easy fix. I know it is not what we expect from Ruger but it appears to be from the mold design (?). I'm sure they will correct any problems but a simple filing and not having to send it back to Ruger and not have the gun works for me.

Thanks for the info. I may try to file it but I'm kind of a purist. It may sound funny, but I've sold guns for less. I keep looking at the wood stock takedown by cougar 302 and I may just change out and start with a new wood stock.
