Ruger 10/22

Hi, Jonny. I just bought one of those about a month ago. I cant give you my price because I traded even my GP100 for the rifle and a Nikon scope. The dealer locally was asking $380. to start with so I cant really bottom line the rifle by itself. Whatever, it is a lovely little gun and shoots exactly where you point it. I also have a 10/22 Magnum which I use on the alligators that sneek into the lake in front of our house. I wanted a 22 that was cheap to shoot and that I wasnt worried about knocking the scope out of line. I only want to kill the alligators I dont want to wound them. Good luck. that's what I was going to say but I'm surprise cause in the description it was a blued receiver and a stainless steele barrel, never thought ruger did that. unless I'm reading it wrong

Something of a sightless Sporter, except it says "walnut stained hardwood stock", which is probably birch, like the carbine models. The Sporter stock is American Walnut, for real.

I have not seen one in the gun stores. Too bad it doesn't have a walnut stock.

Read the Gunblast review referenced in xtratoy's post. Jeff Quinn shot some1/4" grpoups @ 50 yds. Over the last few years owners have been shooting around 1/2" with the LVT. Go to Rimfirecentral.com and the 10/22 Factory Stock Forum. A thread titled "LVT SS barrel . . " has a new owner who is serious target shooter also shooting 1/2 to 1/4" @ 50. In my opinion the 10/22 is a great buy.

I saw one last week and it looked okay, although I haven't gotten comfortable with the silver barrel and black receiver thing yet. I think the dealer was asking around $330 for it.

Too bad Ruger is cutting corners with a 'silver finished alloy' receiver instead of stainless.

They're always used the aluminum receivers since the inception of the 10/22. Be it the blued or the stainless models, the receivers are the same. I don't see it as "cutting corners" but rather using what's needed and keeping it an affordable plinker which is basically what the 10/22 is. The design and chambering doesn't require the strength. With so many whining about weight and trying to shed every ounce they can I can just imagine them complaining about the added weight of stainless and of course the added price. it wouldn't be just the price of the material but also the additional finishing needed were it actual stainless.
Now if it's really a big deal, there's aftermarket choices available. Hate to "cut corners" and not have one of them and build your own from the ground up right?

If the receiver was machined stainless steel, there is no way the 10/22 could be offered for $199. As BlkHwk73 mentioned, they have always had Aluminum receivers. The Ruger receiver has always been perfectly adequate for the function that they have been designed to perform.
