Pinning your 10/22 bolt?

is there any real benefit of pinning the firing pin down in the front of the bolt? i have heard yes and no, on the yes side it makes sense to pin it so you are always striking the same spot on the rim, this would help to eliminate shifting the shell in your breech if it did hit in a weird place. Then on the no side i have heard that if you would pin it down leaving it with no wiggle room you run the risk of shattering your firing pin or cracking your bolt. Any insight on this would be greatly appreciated.

If you buy one if Kidds bolts they're pinned at the front and it also has one of his firing pins. He claims it's more consistant this way. I've got one of his bolt release sets with his guide rod and his auto bolt release part. I have to say he has nice stuff. Not cheap but nice.

the bolt is pretty hard...make sure you have the right drill/cutter if you want to do it yourself.

With many thousands of rounds through 10/22 rifles that have pins over their firing pins, I've not had a firing pin shatter or bolt crack.

My impression is that the big things to improve accuracy in the 10/22 is a better chamber (whether through facing off the breach and rechambering or replacement), and making the rifle reliable with more accurate standard velocity ammo.

I have never read anything negative about pinning the firing pin, it's done to make the rifle more reliable than anything else.
