| Ruger 10/22 Take Down Stock Switch w/ ATI Strike force...
First post... I'm hoping to get some opinions on something and I've been told the internet is apparently full of them
I recently purchased a 10/22 Take Down. The take down action is great but the stock is a bit small for my liking. Given there are no aftermarket stocks at this time, I was thinking about cutting down a ATI Ruger 10/22 Strikeforce Six Position Stock 3-1028830 - ATI Ruger 10/22 Strikeforce Adjustable Stock Grey with Picatinny Rails
I will be running a scope and for the price this stock seems like a middle of the road (cost) option, for an adjustable stock, cheek rest, decent finish. Also I did check out the forums and found the Tapco Franken-stock Take Down Replacement but I wasn't sure if there might be an issue with the ATI vs. Tapco.
Does anyone have an ATI stock or see something on that stock that I'm not thinking about?

That would be good to see...I am going to do a small(ish) build on a 10/22 and I am still mulling over whether or not to switch stocks. I'm currently thinking I won't but I'll watch this and hope someone with experience chimes in.
I started a similar thread (asking for help) and it was somehow turned into a welcome thread.... |

Welcome to the forum from ohio. Can I say though. I have the ATI stock and honestly I wish I would have gone another route at this point. You can make it better by tearing all the extra junk off the butt stock like I did. The biggest issue I have with it is when you go to tear the gun down, there are six extra screws that have to come out. Thankfully that wouldnt be an issue for you sense your cutting it off. I also have a bit of the problem with the fit and finish over all. The rile wobbles a bit in the stock. Im sure with some doing I could take care of it. If its what you really want go for it though more power to you. Its really not bad for the money. Good luck.
If youd like Ill tear this bad boy apart to see If there would be any forseeable issues with choppin it down.
Edit- I see now Im too late lol.

Any updates? Or anyone else attempt this? I've seen a picture online that someone else did and it looks amazing, and I really want to try it, but would like to hear from someone else that's tried it first.

| TakeDown W/ ATI
I did the ATI stock swap. Not too bad just use a new hacksaw blade since this material is hard and abrasive. Biggest task is to grind away for the take down block on the barrel. I made the receiver to barrel gap larger than needed due to not enough thinking before cutting. The plane where the two halves seperate was a little difficult for me to visualize.
Anyway, some Sugru applied filed the gap just fine and gave a little more spring when assemblying the barrel and receiver.

Last night after dark at 35-40 yards I was hitting water bottles hanging in the trees w/o any problem from a standing non-supported stance. This turning into my #1 favorite plinker!

A little late now, but can you post a pic of the underside of the gun?
Is everything snug and secure feeling? My other concern is that after cutting it in half, something might become loose.

The stock is very secure even cut in half. The top of the fore end has 6 bolts holding the top on and 2-3 supports for the barrel and a bottom screw into the take down block.
Here is an underside shot. The opening for the release lever needs to be pretty wide for my stubby fingers.
