| 1st post but not new to forums! (My 10/22 Takedown thoughts)
I am no forum, or firearm, newbie but glad to have found a forum that fits my current needs/wants!
That having been said, I am a member (with the same Screen name) on XDTalk, AR15.com, Candlepowerforums, M4carbine, Walther forums, 1911forum.com, defensive carry forum, and several car forums.
I have truly found that the best way to get the information, on various subjects, is to hit the forums! Then, cross reference information with other possible sources.
So, here are my rough draft plans.
I want to purchase a Ruger 10/22 takedown model (within a month, not right this second). Though on backorder, I did find the website I will more than likely purchase from. I want this to be a project, but I need some general info so I felt that this sub-forum was better than the general project section.
I want to know about threading the barrel on the 10/22 takedown model. My plans are to run a suppressor for it. I know the information on suppressors is heavy and there is tons of it out there, so I will save those questions/specifics for later. I want to know what will be involved in threading the 10/22 (takedown model specifically). Costs? Shops? Recomendations? Time? Will doing this shorten the barrel to the extent that I will also need a tax stamp for a SBR on the 10/22?
I will eventually look into triggers as well but I will do my own research on that. I just want to know some of the info/realization of threading the "Takedown" models barrel before I go and purchase it.
Thanks for any clarification and I am happy to be a member here
This will be my last gun purchase for a while I promise!!! ( Girlfriend control/disclaimer....this past year I have purchased a Remington 870 Tactical, Walther PPS, Daniel Defense M4V5..which is now done up very nicely, and a RIA 2011 Tactical in .45acp)

Update: Sent an email to ADCO.
I found them from the AR forums but I suppose if someone would be able to do it, they can.
I would hope to not have to cut much, if any, from the barrel to avoid a $200 tax stamp on an SBR. Then again, I could have a nice flash hider pinned that can allow for a suppressor to simply screw over the top if needed. My goal is to only hear the action cycle on the .22. Not sure if this is easily done with a design that has to thread over a flash suppressor. I might have to venture into suppressor specific forums.....At any rate, my ideal set up is that getting past that front blade doesn't require cutting too much.
Still looking for insight for those that have traversed this path before.

Welcome from a fellow XDTalker! I haven't been down that road, and don't plan on it for a long while. (I want a Marlin 1894 in .45 Colt first)
Surefire has flash hider mounted suppressors, but are certainly not cheap. I haven't done much research into suppressors, just enough to know that they are pricier than I can afford to do correctly now. Flash Hiders / Suppressor Adapters
The Ruger site lists the TD model as having an 18.5" barrel. How far from the crown is the rear of the sight? From pictures, it looks like about 1-1.5". Assuming my estimate is correct, you should be able to keep the barrel over 16".

Ah, you have probably seen, or haven't looked , at my thread on this subject over there.
On Surefire's website, the link provided, I see 5.56 and .223. Would this be the right size for the .22? Like you mentioned, I might be able to get away with just chopping the front sight post (that roughly 1"-1.5") and having it threaded/recrowned. Still waiting on a reply from ADCO though. I would prefer this but it is nice to know that I can just buy one of the Surefire flash hiders/suppressor adaptors (since they all did this) and have it pinned if needed.

Email from ADCO. The barrel can be threaded, which will result in losing the front sight post. With a suppressor, I would likely have needed a different sighting solution.
I suppose it wouldn't cut off enough to SBR since he did not mention any concern.

Yea, from the email it sounds like it is only going to lose about an inch or so.

I found the Suppressor I will likely go with.
The Spectre 2.
Now I just need to figure out all of this pesky Trust information...
