Installing sling mounts on 10/22?

I'm looking to install sling mounts on my 10/22, it's has the digi cam synthetic stock. I'm wondering if all I have to do is take it down and drill a couple holes or is it a lil more complicated than that, I realize I would have to be aware of the barrel, but anymore to it? Or I was also thinking of putting on a rail system, then maybe only drilling one whole on the but end, so to not risk screwin around with the barrel end? Any ideas would be appreciated, thanks in advance!

BlkHawk73 will become famous soon enough
Take the barreled action of of the stock for starters. That eliminates all concern about the barrel. I'd simply determine where the swivel studs would go, pilot holes then epoxy the swivels in place.

Try these. Put them on my synthetic SS 10/22. Only have to drill one hole for the buttstock. Just drilled a 7/32" hole, put in some Gorilla Glue and screwed in the mounting screw. The barrel band adapter has worked well so far...1000+ plus rounds hasn't come loose or affected accuracy as far as I can tell. I did change out the 1" rings for 1 1/4" rings. More options for slings.

Decide on if you want the sling mounts on permanently (never come off) or if you may want to remove them one day. If you want them on forever, then go with the above recomendations. If not, you will need to make other arrangements (as through bolting - when possible).

I've done more than a few 10/22 with slings for Appleseed.

The m1 garand / m14 web sling is one of the most versatile and useful slings around.

Here's my shopping list....

A garand sling, many many places to get 'em... either USGI or repro.
CMP had used, good USGI for 6bux each, gone now, will be coming back.
Repro start at 12bux and up.
Can find cotton of syn web.. green and black.

Appleseed also sells them out of their E-store.

I've bought 'em from here, very nice strong well made repro..
A82b, Web OD cotton sling*

Fixed, rear 1.25" swivel, compatible with Garand sling.
Sling Swivel Wood-Type Screw 1-1/4 Parkerized
(or you can use one of the QD you'll get in a kit below, just make sure the kit you choose below has the wood screw studs to scew into the stock)

For the front so you can attach a Garand Sling to a 10/22 ...
Story Barrel Front barrel band with swivel stud for 10/22, $25
Barrel Band Ruger 10/22 Steel Blue
Just want this one for the front band QD stud, since the 1" swivels is too small for the Garand sling:
BlackHawk Lok-Down Sling Swivel Set Ruger 10/22, $14 (comes with all the wood screws - best choice - then just need QD swivel kit from below)
Lok-Down Sling Swivel Set Ruger 10/22 44 Carbine Number 3 1 Steel Blue

Now you need 1.25" quality swivels for the front, choices........

Sling QD sets, 1.25" , just want the actual QD's :
Uncle Mike's Quick Detachable Wood Screw Type Sling Swivel Set 1-1/4" Black, with 2 wood screws, $10
Quick Detachable Wood Screw Type Sling Swivel Set 1-1/4 Black

Uncle Mike's Quick Detachable Machine Screw Type Swivels 1-1/4" Black, with one machine and 1 wood screw, $10
Quick Detachable Machine Screw Type Sling Swivels 1-1/4 Black

The Outdoor Connection Talon Sling Swivels 1-1/4" Steel Black (1 Pair), swivels only, $9
The Talon Sling Swivels 1-1/4 Steel Black (1 Pair)

Uncle Mike's Quick Detachable Mil-Spec Sling Swivels 1-1/4" Silver , swivels only, $16
Quick Detachable Mil-Spec Sling Swivels 1-1/4 Silver

The front becomes detachable with one of the QDC swivels.
The rear, using the "Sling Swivel Wood-Type Screw 1-1/4 Parkerized" , the clip of the garand sling just snaps onto that.

When shooting using a arm loop, or hasty sling, or hasty hasty, fully adjustable, and works great...... even for carrying....
