Just the particular model. There's a LOT of different models. The Sporter is simply the one with a checkered walnut stock and no barrel band.

JGant is an unknown quantity at this point
The Deluxe Sporter and the Altamont (Schnabel forend & cheekpiece) walnut stock models are two of the best looking 10/22's Ruger makes.... they are almost too pretty to shoot.... I have several of each of them, and I don't shoot them much. These are not billie 10/22's.....

We have the SD, too. Just a matter of stock design between it and one of the standard Carbine versions. Just a matter of taste as to which you prefer. I gotta have walnut in a long gun and the walnut on our SD is very nice.

In the grand scheme of things, it probably doesn't mean anything to you directly.
However, if you send it to me, I will provide it with meaning and dispose of it properly.

Just to clarify ....am I correct ...that is a "Sporter"? There is no "Deluxe" Sporter now? Wasn't the "Deluxe Sporter" back in the 60s when they made the finger groove sporter ...and the 'deluxe' was the checkered version?

Thank you all. I think I said it wrong in the beginning after reading some. It is a sporter not sportster.... I am trying to find the difference in the deluxe and non deluxe..

If memory serves me correctly... The "Sporter" (SP) was originally used to designate the model known as the Fingergroove Sporter. Later the design of the stock was changed to what it is now and it became the Deluxe Sporter (DSP). While now called simply "Sporter" in factory literature, it still retains the "DSP" in it's model designation.

Catman's pic is what we would call a Sporter Deluxe a few years, ago, or what we now just call a Sporter. Still a current gun.

I just bought this one online. It's a 1990 DSP I believe! Correct me if I'm wrong.
