Hi everyone,

I've been reading here on the forum that some of you are having issues with the new BX-25 25 round magazine. I was thinking of getting one for my 1999 model year 10-22 but what I've been reading is making me reconsider. Should I still get one or stick with the 10-rounders?

I use a BX25 and a butler creek 25 round, and the bx25 is much more reliable. I have found that the bx25 is better in the fact that it is made more solid and fits better in the gun. Other large clips tend to be sloppy and that leads to jamming issues. My butler creek won't even work in my buddies new 10/22 but fits fairly snug in my 1996 model. On his, after the first couple of shots it falls down, and it jams, but works if you hold the mag forward. I also like the fact the BX25 can be torn down if cleaning is needed and what not, while most other mags are molded and you are screwed if they get gummed up.

I have 5 BX-25's and have noticed that two of them seem to have more feeding issues than the others when using bulk ammo. However this past weekend I bought 3 boxes of CCI mini mags and they ran 100% through all of 5 them. It appears that ammo selection is important for reliability.

On the other hand I have never had any problems with the 10 rounders when using bulk ammo.

Have 2 BX25 mags and both seemed to 'break in' after running a few full clips through them, had the occasional jam early on with some CCI Mini-Mags, but my last couple of excursions have been clean with no issues whatsoever with either the CCI or Federal Automatches.. tho I've only got a couple hundred rounds through them.

if you get one and have issues with the ammo not rising after the top round has been stripped it is an easy fix!
just alittle file action to the metal where the round (nose) passes from plastic to the metal the metal is just alittle high file till even with the plastic, now both of mine work great!

Ruger BX-25 Magazine.

This topic is defently one that I was in need of. I currently reside in Maryland where the 25 round magazine is unavailable(Due to random law withholding any magazine over 20 rounds) and in order to get one I would have to drive to PA to buy it. It still seems desent from most of the reviews but this has defently helped me with my choice.

I'm having no issues with the one BX25 that I have.
Just put about 200 rounds through it today using CCI Blazer and had zero malfunctions.

I have around 1000 rounds in total through the BX25 and the only malfunctions I've had were with the Winchester 555/333 and I think that's the ammo not the magazine.

I've put close to 1000 rds through the BX-25 that I own and never had a problem and it's less that 2 months old. Just ordered 2 more this morning because of it's reliability. Now the Butler Creek 25 rd mag has given me FTF problems with bulk rounds of Winchester and Remington, but ok with CCI Blazer.

Ok thanks everyone....so for the most part it seems to be a reliable mag, if perhaps a little bit more "finicky" with ammo. I'll make sure that when I get one (maybe at tomorrow's gun show!) I'll just feed it the good stuff...CCI mini-mags or Winchester Super-X.;)

Range Report: Bought my BX-25 a couple weeks ago at my LGS and finally tried it out this past weekend. I'm pleased to report that the mag performed nearly flawlessly, gobbling up CCI mini-mags and Federal bulk ammo all afternoon with nary a hiccup (just a couple of FTE's towards the end of the day, and that I think I can attribute to the gun getting dirty after several hundred rounds through it. So I would personally reccommend this Ruger factory mag to anyone who has a 10-22 and wants a reliable, higher capacity magazine.

P.S. of course the only downside to all of this is that you definitely go through you ammo much more quickly!!;)

Sometimes I believe the springs are a bit stout when new. If your having problems try loading it a round or two short of a full mag the first couple times out, or try loading the mag all the way and leaving it that way for a day or two. Seems to have worked for me on my BC steel liped mag.
as it works fine now.

I originally purchased two of BX-25 magazines. They ran flawlessly with my daughter's 10-22, my 10-22T, and my 77/22. I was impressed enough to buy two more of them. By the way, I use Remington 550 bulk pack hollowpoints exclusively. They've proven to be both accurate and reliable in all of my .22s.

I can see that these reviews go back to 2011 however I just purchased two bx25's and when the clip is loaded full the first three rounds are very tight and as a result my 1022 action is not able to push them into the barrel. Once I get past these first three rounds the clips are fine. It seems the spring gets super tight when loaded all the way. Rugers answer is for me to pay the shipping and send them to ruger for eval. Like I am going to spend seven bucks on two clips that cost me less than $30. I some what believe in ruger products but their quaility control leaves alot of questions in my mind. I have one after market clip that works very good but ruger cannot make one that works.

I fire 300-400 (or more) every week. I don't have a clue as to how many rounds my BX25's have through them. Trust me, they take some tinkering to keep running reliably. If you shoot certain kinds of matches that is a real problem, therefore many of my friends shoot the AR15-22. The problem is that the dimensions differ from the standard 10 round magazines, which are truly great. I believe Ruger hot themselves in the foot. Old Bill would be embarrassed.

I find that using a MagLula ,designed for the 10/22, I rarely get jams. Using the MagLula unload-er to test mags is also a plus.

When I bench shoot my SR-22 rifle I use the 10 round mags.

The MagLula seams to put pressure just at the right spot on the .22 round so every round is loaded the same.
