Factory 10/22 50 yard groups (New video added)

I have a 10/22 with a sporter stock and a stainless 22" barrel. I was at the gun shop chewin' the fat as usual and the conversation got around to 10/22's. I was telling that I could get 1" groups at 50 yards easy with bulk ammo. They laughed and said I was crazy. He then asked what kind of scope I had and I told him a 3x9x40 Barska. You should have seen the looks. They looked a lot like this and this . He then told me that if I had a 10/22 that was shooting like that, he wouldn't turn a screw on it. What do y'all think? Is it out of the norm for a 10/22 to shoot like this? Could I do a trigger job without effecting the way it shoots?

I believe you. I was getting 2-3 inch groups with wally world stuff off shooting sticks at 50 yards. From a bench in better weather, it's entirely likely you would get groups like that.

I have one of those, and it is one of the most accurate 10 22s Ive ever owned. You might want to check into Volquartson hammer- sear. Easy way to get a safe and lighter trigger pull. Simple to install, and shouldnt affect the zero. You may have to re adjust scope some,as taking the barreled action out of the stock could affect this.(different torque on screw) However it should be very minimal.I also free floated the barrel on mine for better accuracy.Lots of little tricks you can learn on here that wont cost very much.I must warn you, this modding can get really costly as you try to get that last little bit of accuracy from these fun little rifles! Be safe.

Yes I do believe you are getting 1" at 50 yrds.
On a good day I can get 2 - 2.5 groups at 100 yards. The best group I ever shot at 100yrs was just over an inch.

Second the opionion on the VQ hammer. When I put mine in the trigger pull went from around 7lbs to about 3 lbs. The unit is currently on sale a Midway.

Target Hammer Bushings Ruger 10/22

There are lots of other inexpensive mods that you can do to your 10/22.
I free floated my barrel and bedded the action and added a second hold down bolt. I got my information to do these things from rimfirecentral.net.

Have fun tunning up your 10/22,
Roger

Impressed, I've not seen the 22 inch barrel 10/22 is that stock? Still its a very nice group with your hand held bench set up and 9 pwr scope well done.

Thanks for the kind words. Yes, it's in complete factory form. It's a Lipseys exclusive. They make a blued and stainless version.

That's better than I can do with mine (same 22" SS barrel and sporter stock). I was able to get about a 1" group at 100 yards once. 3-9x40 simmons scope, Federal bulk ammo, off of sandbags. I think it was more luck than anything. It was only a 3 round group, which is not really enough to consider it representative of the gun's (and my) accuracy. Still, I was pretty happy and quit shooting after that for the day. A typical group for me is more like 3-4"@100yds. What kind of ammo were you using?

The only internal mod I did on my 10/22 was for the bolt release. I put a cheapie CenterPoint 3x8x40 scope on it from Wally World. Heck, even the 10/22 is a Wally World special. I get decent groups at 100 yards and could only imagine what a 50 yard decrease would make. I ain't changing a thing.

I don't have the patience for 3-shot groups, so here's 55 rounds at 100 yards.

I was shooting Winchester 555 bulk. That stuff has really worked well for me. I have done a 1" 10 shot group @ 75 yards before if you don't count one flier. I knew I pulled it when the trigger broke. I was shooting out of the same chair and off of the same table, but resting on a sleeping bag. HA! What a redneck! But seriously, that rifle is a real shooter.

Very impressive.. I couldn't have shot off my hands like that. If you would get some sand bags you may put them all in the same hole..

Here's a 10 shot target with my sand bag rested Henry H001 .22 with a very old, very fine cross hair 4X32 Bushnell Banner, using W.W. Super X, @ 35 Yds.
Center circle is 2". I know it isn't a Ruger, but I love this rifle, & it's a super squirrel gun !! One of my favorite pastimes each Fall.
