The concern is they have a slightly larger bullet diameter and a lot more pressure than a standard .22lr. I've used them in my MKIII and 22/45 without any negative side effects.

I thought the case was longer. Didn't know about larger bullet diameter.

Thats what I thought also. I've shot them will no ill effects but I don't shoot them a lot. I like the Velocitors better.

I might try the Stingers. I just didn't know if they didn't feed reliably. I've tried the Velocitors and I just picked up some Mini Mags.

The Stinger is the same .223 diameter bullet as others, but only 31 grains in weight. The case is 1/10th of an inch longer than standard .22LR.

Ruger has a notice in the owner's manual to not shoot Stingers in the 10/22 Target models. They have a match spec chamber and the Stingers don't headspace right. With any other 10/22 they are okay, but will understandably be rougher on the gun than regular high-velocity ammo.

My mistake. I got a tiny slip of paper with my VQ target barrel warning not to fire stingers in it. I thought it said it was a larger bullet diameter, but a long case makes sense too.

Stingers are not recommended for blowback semi autos. the 10-22 is a blowback action. That means that the weight of the spring is what is keeping the bolt forward. In a locked breech like a lever action or bolt action the extra length of the stinger case in no concern. In a blowback the worry is that the action will open with some of the case still in the chamber. People say this to be safe. I have fired stingers in many semi auto 22s and no problem. But if you want to be extra safe use them in lever or bolt action or pump action.

I'll agree with the above that the case is a slight bit longer and has a bit more oomph but Ruger barrels do NOT have a "match spec chamber". They're chambers are cut and allow Stingers to chamber where as a barrel that does have a GOOD match cut chamber will not.
I used to use Stingers in a 10/22T with no issues at all. In fact they shot fantastic. Soon decided that if regular ammo shot just as well, why not use it. The squirrel/rabbit won't know the difference.

There is no real danger. Just don't use them - no need (and they cost more than bulk - per round).

A friend told me. He said he had problems. I've never shot them.

I have fired Stingers in my 10/22 for some 20 years, NO problems, never knew there was a warning not to. Not the smartest guy here I guess.
