Received my X22 TD stock. Really wanted FDE but they were not available and Midway had the black one sale, so ordered that. I have an early first year TD with only upgrades being a BX trigger, bolt buffer, some polish and clean up of the stock receiver and bolt as well as a dyi auto bolt release. It lived in a Tapco stock prior and I never really liked it, but the adjustable length of pull was nice when my kids were small and we could all enjoy shooting it.

Fit and finish are really nice on the Magpul. Can't wait to get it out to the range and shoot it after Christmas.

My son's rifle. We did a bit of liberty trainer.

BX trigger
USGI style leather sling
Stock shortened 1"
Pachmayr recoil pad.
Williams 5D-RU rear peep sight

I'll probably get him a 15rd magazine or two as well.

This started a few years ago after I saw a member over on RFC who made an awesome tribute to the classic carbine. That was followed by another member who is both here and there doing a very similar thing. Rather than being content with a cone of either of them, I decided to make it mine.

I started by turning the stock into a straight grip and staining it with dark brown Fiebings leather dye. Of course I drilled the rear sling screw holes crooked so I had to drill it out, fill it with dowel rod sections, file/sand smooth and re stain. I added a blued 1903 sing swivel in the rear. A few minuted with a flat file and it fit like a glove.

For the front sling swivel it got a bit more involved. I stripped the finish off an old metal barrel band, and ground down the front swivel from a 1903 to use as a barrel band sling. The problem with this is if I got it tight enough to work, the swivel wound't.... Well, swivel. The solution was to drill through the band on both sides, put metal knife inserts into the stock, and blue two screws that fit. This gives it nice contrast in color (silver and blue) and also the barrel band is very tight with the addition of letting the swivel do what it is intended to do.

For the iron sights, I knocked out the old ones and installed a .50" front sight and a Ruger factory folding Mini-14 rear sight. It's awesome, works fantastic and only cost me $18-20. I like that setup so much my other 10/22 wears them too.

The receiver is drilled in the rear for a cleaning rod hole, and the metal buffer was replaced with a VQ unit. As for the bolt, I added in the VQ edge extractor and also a Sure Strike firing pin. I had to dremel the side of the stock as I bought a gloss black side scope mount for a Winchester 94. It was the only one I could find which was actually flat instead of curved to fit a rounded receiver. I had the receiver drilled and tapped and installed so it sits flush with the top, nothing overhangs from any angle so it's pretty clean. A gloss 4x Pronghorn rounds it out. You can choose whether to use the scope or irons so the options are there.

For the trigger group it's an older metal one with a Power Custom drop in hammer and sear. The trigger was swapped with a stainless one for a little contrast without going overboard. Lastly, I added a reproduction 1907 sling and a stainless Power Custom lever mag release. It was the only one I found that actually fit the trigger guard without any gaps.

Yeah, it took me two years or so of on and off tinkering and swapping things until I was happy but now I finally have something of my own that carries like the guns of yesteryear but performs like a highly tuned machine.

I know this thread is old, but it pertains to my issue. Noobs CAN'T post pics until a certain post count. I have searched for awhile now and can not find where it is stated how many posts I need before I can post a pic. This is a really stupid rule I don't understand. I understand post counts for sale items so the site isn't flooded with members who only show up once to sell something. I have an issue that I would like to clear up by posting a pic, but I'm prohibited, WTF.
How many stupid posts do I have to make before I can add a legitimate picture?
