Ruger 10/22 17HMR and 22WMR in Same Rifle

I saw a video on YOUTUBE where a guy simply switched the barrel and shot .17HMR and .22WMR in the same Ruger 10/22 Rifle. Link to this video is below. Has anyone done this? Any idea why Ruger stopped making the Magnum models and what is the chance of Ruger coming out with 10/22 in Magnum Again? I would love to be able to shoot these two calibers interchangeably. I have read that CZ is making the new American Model 455 capable of not only shooting the .22LR but also the 17HMR and .22WMR on the same rifle base by just swapping out the barrels.

10/22 hmr/wmr

So far 34 compatriots have viewed this thread but no one has posted a response. Is this video bogus or was there actually a 10/22 that could be altered between the .17HMR and the .22WMR?

I see no reason why a .17 HMR barrel would not swap directly onto a Ruger 10/22 Magnum, just as a .17 Mach 2 barrel swaps easily onto a standard 10/22.

However, Remington has recalled all .17 HMR autoloaders and clearly states that their .17 HMR ammunition should never be fired in semiautomatics. I assume this refers to those that are blowback-operated, though I expect they all were.

Apparently, there wasn't enough research done on the actions matching the greater initial energy of the .17 HMR, or something like that. I haven't bothered to research all the technical details, but it sounds as if it is worth researching if you are considering this type of a convertible.

Also, the 10/22 barrels, while easily swapped by an owner, are not really designed to be swapped often. The lockup can wear out if you do it enough times. This is why Butler Creek stopped marketing their take-down kit.

I agree, swapping barrels will worsen the snugg fit and possibly increase barrel droop. Ruger needs to "start over" with a 10/22, add a self regulating buffer, a threaded reciever, more action screws, and throw it in the LVT configueration. Would it really add that much cost???

I don't have a 10/22 yet but watching the video I see the connection joint. The blow-back pressure of the .17HMR vs the .22WMR also makes sense.

A bolt action would be more useful in a swap arrangement.

Thanks for the feedback.
