I am looking at building my next .22 custom. I was wondering if you can customize the american rimfire the same as you can the 10/22. Are the stocks the same and can I use aftermarket 10/22 parts to customize the american rimfire.
As far as customizing: it would take years for the American Rimfire to catch up to amount of customizing stuff available to the 10/22. I doubt it ever will.
Do you know of any other bolt action .22 that has 1/4 the customization aftermarket parts of the 10/22? Not going to happen.
Yup, totally agree with all the above from Spike. Interesting you should ask this question now, I just put together a new 10/22 yesterday + put it up against my .22LR RAR. To my astonishment, the 10/22 won. My wife has a decked out 10/22 and I always outshoot her with the RAR. But with me behind the wheel of both, the 10/22 wins by a rather large margin. I much prefer bolt actions + always thought they were more accurate, but it is what it is.
Here's a few facts about the two. As Spike said, aftermarket parts goes to 10/22 all day. Factory trigger goes to RAR all day. If I were using it to train younguns, I'd go with the bolt action. For carryin in the woods, I'd go with the 10/22. For a custom build, think 10/22 hands down no brainer!
I have a great 10/22 and a great Ruger American .22. I customized the 10/22 to where I like it but the Ruger American came great out of the box. The only thing I did was replace the extractor, which I do will all my Ruger .22s
