I have been working on my 10/22 stovepipes and am beginning to get frustrated. I understand that it is the magazines responsibility to eject the spent case however it is widely recommended to change the extractor so I gave it a whirl and then it would not feed. I reinstalled the original and I was back to square one, it feeds but stovepipes on ejection. I have been adjusting the mag lips with limited success, any ideas? Maybe if I could get the new extractor to feed it would help.

Sorry, I just now figured out I put this in the wrong section. Anyway, I switched back to some old plastic high-cap mags I had and just emptied 50 rds. w/o a stovepipe. I ordered a couple of TI's and just have to wait for their arrival.

Actually the magazine is responsible for feeding the round into the chamber. The extractor/ejector is what pulls the case out of the chamber and then flings it out of the gun. Playing with the magazine usually has no effect on an extraction problem.
I think a lot of people get these functions/terms mixed up to some extent. If what your experiencing is unfired rounds that are jamming the action of the gun up, before they can get into the chamber and be fired, you have a FEED issue and the magazine can be responsible. If what your experiencing are spent brass cases being caught in between the bolt and the breech before they clear the gun, you have an extraction problem and the magazine brobably isn't at fault.

I agree with Bullitholz with one exception. Some aftermarket magazines fit so poorly they will interrupt the extraction process and cause stovepipes or failures to extract. Any time you suspect a feeding or extraction issue, always try to replicate the problem with factory 10 round magazines. If the gun still malfunctions, then you have a bonafide problem.
