Savage 93fvss vs Marlin XT-22MVSR

I considering purchasing a .22 mag rifle to go with my new 10/22TD. I'm thinking of Savage or Marlin as the 77/22 is out of the budget.

The models I'm looking at are the Savage 93FVSS and the Marlin XT-22MVSR.

I understand the Marlin's have a slightly heavier barrel than the Savage, but overall there are about the same.

Any imput on reliability, funtion and overall experices, and pricing with these?

Thanks ahead,
Raul

Don't know about the Marlin but I own a Savage FLVSS and love it. I put a Nikon 2x7x33 on it and have nothing but praise for it's accuracy. It lives on a steady diet of 32gr hollow points. It's one of the few that always finds its way to the range. Less than 1/2" MOA at 100yds. Very, very accurate and a real pleasure to shoot.

I have the Savage 93fvss and love it. Never had a problem and it's very accurate. The AccuTrigger is great.

Had a savage 93 17 hmr and was thrilled to sell it for half of what I had in it. The inside of the receiver looked like they twisted a drill bit off in it. I had the gun for two months it went back to savage on my dime, and came back again on my dime something like 6-9 months later in no better shape then when they got it back. Next time it came out of the safe it got dumped off at a gun show. I borrowed a marlin 22mag with the micro grove barrel off a friend that spring and it worked great with vmax ammo. Dropped several groundhogs out to 150 yards one shot.

I'm more incline on the Savage as I've read more positives than negatives reviews. Any idea where they have it in stock at a good price?

You cant go wrong either way.My son has a savage 17hmr with the thumb hole stock and shoots 12ga hulls off the 100yd back stop with ease.Savage has a great trigger.I have a marlin 22 semi auto and it is very accurate also a 1894 44mag and love it.Both are great guns.

My vote is Savage. I'd buy an older Marlin but the quality today isn't what it once was.

Thanks, but I'm looking for the Savage 93FVSS or the 93FVSS-XD which is the same, but with a scope already.

Try looking for the savage mark II FVXP package. Fluted, heavy barrel, optics included (not the best but great considering your really getting a scope at no additional cost). The rifle is dead nuts accurate after a bore sight and only took a few 3 round groups to zero the scope. It's a very accurate and nice precision rifle with the outstanding accutrigger system. A blast to shoot and a great price. Been shooting 1/2" groups at 100 yards which ain't bad considering the drop. I'd take a Savage over a marlin any day. And I have owned both.

Here's a pic of mine (sorry for the quality - iPhone pic)
