| Recomended Gun Safes?
I am looking the $500-$600 range. I need something that will hold 3-5 long rifles and a dozen hand guns. I don't like the sheet metal ones I have been seeing that look like they could be easily opened with a crow bar.
Right after I bought my house a "tobacco shop" opened up across the street that is known for selling drugs. Needless to say my neighborhood is going down fast and I have some new sketchy neighbors. I am not worried about anything happening while I am home I just don't want my guns stolen while me and the family are away.
I currently have a hand gun safe for my hand guns but they could remove the safe from the house easily.

you'll need to add some more numbers there to get a good safe.
always remember, buy bigger than you think you need--the gun count on the safes is always inaccurate.

I bought my safe from American Security. I have the TF5924E5 model.
When I bought it, I never thought I'd fill it up. But I'm going to have to do some reworking of the shelves to fit all my guns in it now.
I bought mine on sale and I think I paid around $600 to $800 for it.

I'm on my third safe, a Cannon Scout 64 gun. I never thought I'd fill my first Fort Knox 64 gun but I did that and then a Liberty 64 and now my new Cannon is full, I have a stack on 24 gun safe for ammunition only and also an American steel locking cabinet for powder and other reloading supplies. I'll go ahead and echo that you should buy a much larger capacity safe than you think you need because you will eventually need more space. You can't argue with inevitibility! In your budget you'll be hard pressed to find anything that will provide adequate security but there are a few that may work allright like Stack-on (safe's, not cabinets) and Field & Stream models available from Dicks sporting goods.

I've got a Liberty, it was higher than your range but for me, the features were worth it.

Sturdy Safes. Made in America in Fresno, CA. I've owned one for years and they are excellent. When I lived in Fresno I worked near their plant. I can attest that they are made in the USA by American workers. Lifetime warranty too. Gun Safes : Fire Safe Manufacturer : Sturdy Gun Safe
btw I would buy one that holds at least 10 long guns. Or else you will outgrow it fast and you will end up spending the money you should have the first time around. Those 16 gauge safes that lock with a key are only a step up from the old glass door gun cabinets. Really meant to keep youngsters out..not crminals.

Also buy bigger than you need cause you will run outta space, I have. The stack on is fire rated for 30 mins at 1500 degrees, and since I am a firefighter by profession, thats good enough for me, since unless you live in bfe, it will never burn at that range for 30 minutes or the house will already be gone. Also pick the safe by the type of guns you have, if you have tactical guns with pistol grips the 24 gun safe will only hold maybe half that many, unless you by the browning tactical safe made for the "black" guns. Just a thought!

I have (and am pleased with) a Liberty as well. One thing I found helpful for handgun storage was a pan lid rack (stainless no less) from Target. It ran $3 and holds 8 hand guns in a compact space.

My sheet metal safes are Stack-On Gun Boxes. I upgraded them with better locks, and used half inch security bolts and heavy fender washers to attach them to a heavy closet shelf, inch thick oak.
They are in a closet that's behind my chimney, and labeled as a chimney fire suppression system, with "High Voltage" inside. You never know, that might stop someone from trying to pry one.
That's one security trick, to make something appear to be something else.
I have a DIY security system, but yard signs for a high dollar alarm company.

Dicks sporting goods had a sale last weekend. I got a Field and Stream 10 gun safe for $350 it was $100 off.
Its not the greatest but it does what I needed it to do. It is fire rated for 1400 degrees for 30 minutes and it is really solid. It says ten guns but I don't think it will hold 10 guns unless they are including hand guns. Most of my guns are handgun anyways.
