Me too! I feel like it's a shame that they don't get to get out and play very often...

Always brings a smile to my face when they do though, until I have to clean them!

My problem is more practical than anything else. My range that I'm a member of is indoors. The largest caliber they allow is .45-70. All the outdoor ranges are about 90 minutes away from where I live (one-way). It just seems to be too much of a hassle to waste pretty much a full day just to shoot a rifle. I'd love to get an M1, or M1A, but I can't justify the cost, as I'd fire it maybe a few times a year.

I might be getting a lever action in .357 or .44, and I like the Winchesters, but once again now I'm over $1000.00 for a rifle. I like the Marlins, but I wish they'd make a large loop version in the 1894 series.

I don't mind cleaning mine. It takes a little more time but I enjoy it. I've got one of those bearing greaser tools thats fun to use. My M1A is currently scopeless until I can afford another one for my Rem 700 SPS. I should take the M1A out cause it's got great iron sights but I'm waiting for cooler weather here in Phoenix. 25 yards indoors is just a waste IMO.

I don't mind cleaning either just not 6 or 7 since my attention to detail will take me all day to do. You should look at the Burris Eliminator for that SPS. I put one on my custom built 24" Lr308 and have been shooting pennies at 100 yards. Owned it 3 or 4 years, Very clear scope and awesome rangefinder and bdc setup. If it wasnt for the cost I have another. I am a nikon man but I consider it equal. I am hoping one day to buy a m1a national match and possible add one.

Isn't .45 larger than .30??? Are we talking bullet diameter or power?

You ought to check out Ruger's 77/357 or 77/44.

Thanks, I'll take a look. The one I've planned to get is the Bushnell Elite 6500 4.5x30-50mm. I just haven't had the $900-$1,000 to spend on it lately.

Thanks! Another toy I'd love to play with. The Eliminator III looks more my style with its max magnification at 16x because of my old eyes. The Bushnell goes up to 30x but I'm not sure how much that will help. I like the idea of the combined electronics, even though I do have a hand held laser range finder. The proof would be looking through both side by side. The Bushnell has outstanding glass, better than Nikon IMO.

Hmmm...
