Anyone remember the J.C. Higgins .22 rifles sold by Sears many years ago? I had one & it was a bolt action single shot. Does anyone still own one? My first rifle & lots of good memories from owning it although I suspect it was not of very good quality. Just wondering.....

Spike12 will become famous soon enough
What you probably have is a Winchester, Marlin, or such with the J.C.Higgins markings. Might be fun to find out who *really* made it.

Why do you say this? I have an old J.C. Higgins 12 ga. that was handed down from my great-grandfather.

Marlin, Mossberg, Harrington and Richardson, were amomg those who made J.C. Higgins firearms for Sears Roebuck, and Company during this period.

Purchased my first rifle approx 1949 - a J.C. Higgins single-shot .22. Had to pull the bolt knob back to fire. I needed gas money and sold it to my brother for $2. Wish I still had it. Other guns from Sears were J.C. Higgins shotguns - all mfg by Savage/Stevens. Recently gave my double 12 gauge to my son - bought approx 1959. Still a very good shotgun - it accounted for everything from doves to deer.

That's the same gun I had. Forgot that you had to pull the bolt back to fire it. I too wish that I still had the gun. To me it would be worth a lot more than the monetary value.

There was no "J.C. Higgins" firearms manufacturer. It was a trade name applied to guns made by a variety of manufacturers and sold by retail outlets such as Sears, Wards, Etc. Some very fine guns are around of this type. I have long wanted one of the "Ted Williams" (actually Winchester) 30-30s with its unique and neat features, I have a Mossberg-made "Western Field" pump 20 that is a favorite and cost, used, even less than a used one with just the "Mossberg" name on it.

Thumbs up J. C. Higgins guns 1950s

J. C. Higgins: I have two from my teenage days. .22 bolt/clip 103.228-22 cal.
Got it for Christmas and immediatley went jackrabbit night spotting(1958). Pump shotgun Model 20 583,2002(1959). The gun shot a lot of ducks and geese. Both guns are in shooting condition today. Both guns worked great. No complaints about quality in relation to cost.
