I've read about chrome lined barrels on the internet for months but am not sure what the real advantage is. Most guys in the shops tell me its a waste of money and you lose accuracy. I understand the moisture issue. Is there anything else...someone educate me

Chrome lining cleans up very easily and resists corrosion.
As for accuracy loss, its more subjective- often the firearms that get chrome lined barrels aren't going to shoot any better than 2moa with ball ammo any way, so any accuracy loss from chrome lining is moot.

If the chrome is applied correctly to a high qaulity barrel, there should be little if any loss in accuracy, however, very few manufacturers do it correctly.

You will very rarely find it on precision rifles other than some Colt national match rifle and most H&K sniper rifles- for the price of one of either company's barrels, you can buy very high quality aftermarket stainless barrels that will easily outshoot the chrome lined barrels.

If you are going to buy/build an ar-15 carbine/Ak/SKS and shoot mainly surplus/wolf/cheap ammo through it, chrome lining can be a plus, other than that I wouldn't pay extra for it.

If I am not going to be in coastal alaska or a rainforest I do not see the need.
But, you can spend $1500 on a 'top tier' AR with a chromed barrel, parkerization under the gas block, a gas key staked by magical elves, a milspec pistol grip, a MPI tested barrel (because barrels that aren't tested explode all of the time killing innocent bystanders), and a special limited edition Operation Enduring Freedom coyote tan charging handle, park it in a safe, retire to the room in your trailer that's decorated with Navy Seal posters, and tell everyone on the internetz to "go chrome or stay home."

See it does have value.:p
