Question Savage Model 99 ?'s

Hi guys I recently acquired a Savage Model 99 .300 Savage with the Schnable forearm on it. I read up that the machine screw to fasten this part to the barrel is a 8-40 machine screw. I have a mickey mouse set up the prior owner has that is going to go. Its a regular machine screw used which I hope hasn't messed up the stock metal dove tailed metal piece thats in the barrel dove tail cut!! My forearm stock has the hole in the wood to fasten this piece of wood to the barrel. But forward of this hole is another hole in the wood for a sling swivel setup thats missing the wood is solid no cracks. My question here is Grov-Tec makes a set up that replaces the stock machine screw with a sling swivel screw to to both hold the wood stock to the barrel and serve as a sling swivel as well. I ordered this but then today found a good source of 8-40 machine screws at Ace Hardware store in their section of fastener's etc labled Gun Machine screws used for scope mounts/rings etc. I am going to see first if I can copy the regular Savage set up with a blued or black machine screw flush with the wood when tightened down the forearm set up my question is this forward part of the stock strong enough for a sling swivel or the barrel band set up?? I have the Grov-Tec setup coming I still might try this otherwise I have another hole to patch on the forearm stock where the sling swivel hole is. Also is there a source where I can also find a steel grip cap for the pistol grip?? Mine is missing I do not have to get a steel one but I would like to find a replacement for it. Thanks for any suggestions and help!! Another great forum member also has assisted me with some help etc named Aqualung very nice guy!!!

Loose Noose is on a distinguished road
GQ, have you tried Numerich Gun Parts, or Jack First Gun Parts, I'm sure they can help you. Numerich has schematics on line that you can match up. I'd go to one of them first, and if not try Dick Williams Gun Shop Inc. at 989-777-1240 he has helped me out numerous times on hard to find parts and is really easy to deal with. Last but not least is Bob's Gun Parts out of Arkansas which is on the internet.
