.22 rifle no scope

I've been on the hunt for a new .22 rifle for squirrel hunting. I want to use iron sights only. This gun will never have a scope.

Any opinions on what guns have the best iron sights on them?

I have no rifle iron sight experience besides when I was a kid with a bb gun.
Just started teaching myself to hunt in 2008 and everything has been with a scope besides handgun hunting.

Thanks for any suggestions.

10/22....or if you have a gun show to check out, see if you can find an old Remington Nylon 66.

both great guns.

also, the Thompson Center .22 Classic looks to be a fine rifle, although much pricier than the other 2. FWIW, it has fiber-optic sights...really easy to see.

Marlin Model 60 probably wouldn't be a bad choice as they tend to be more accurate out of the box than the Rugers and cheaper too. They also have a few different sight options as well.

You got me looking at marlins now. I don't have one. I like the model 60 and am starting to eyeball the 39A but it's more than I wanted to spend. Sure is nice though!

I love my Marlin Model 60. I traded an older 9mm Hi Point Carbine for it. Had $125 in the 9mm so I felt pretty good about the trade. I think you can get new ones for around $150.

Thanks for the suggestions. I've decided to go with the cz 452 trainer with the budweiser stock.

I think a less complicated question would be to ask the group to name a bad one. I can't think of any properly functioning .22 LR rifle that wouldn't work for you.

I'd look for a cool old Mossberg, preferably with a peep site. They can be gotten quite reasonably and I believe will become increasingly more collectable.

Good luck ... Joe

........+1! I have a Mossberg 146 B-A and it's amazing how well it shoots with the peeps. Another plus is the old Mossy's are a full size rifle; they don't feel like a kids toy. Apparently they have got a lot more collectable as they are getting harder to find every day.
