| 7.62 Carbine selection
I am seriously considering a CZ 527M as a farm truck gun. I see a lot of farmers with the Ruger semi-autos but I sort of like a bolt action.
This gun would be a quick, special opportunities gun for coyotes, fox, bobcat, feral cats, wild dogs, and crows.
Any thoughts?

The mini is a fun road cruise gun, but I just as often have my number one. Realistically it seems that 99% of the time you only have one good shot anyway. The rest are just for fun.

I have a CZ 453V in the .17 HMR and it is a freak of nature, just way under powered for some of the vermin I've listed. I've always been obsessed with Mini's though. A 5.56 might be a better side kick.

I would not turn my head against those mini-14's now that they have better barrels and shoot under 3 inches at 100 yds. |

Glad I waited for the GSR- I've been looking for a long time for just what I wanted and finally Ruger made it! Thank you!

I have heard of several CZ carbine bolts in 7.62X39 that shoot .5" at 100 yards with the cheap ammo. That is if you are wanting a 200 yard gun that shoots well with cheap stuff.

Thank you! | I was just going to suggest the GSR but it looks like you've already found it. I just bought a Springfield SOCOM 16, basically a 16" barreled version of their venerable M1A with a short Picatinny rail on top. I seriously considered the GSR first, but I'm very happy with the SOCOM 16.
I don't live where I can go varmint hunting very easily or have any such need. My targets are polite enough to be still while I shoot them! But that GSR is a sweet gun and if I were varmint hunting with it, I might have chosen it instead, primarily due to the bolt action being a little safer - at least in my mind.

i have 2 cz 550 bolt actions and they are very accurate. I do not see why other czs would not be good. I also have a cz 97 in 45 acp. It is accurate. I have never had a bad cz.

| LOL. The CZ rifles are really good, but even a really good rifle cannot make crap ammo shoot like that. With good handloads I have no doubt that they will shoot like that. |

Try Hornady or Federal ammo in 7.62x39.

Trust me, not my words there: Review of the CZ-527 7.62x39
and I doubt his claim as well.

I'd pick up a used bolt action in 22/250 or 223.

The Marlin bolt action chambered in the 22-250 are a sweet package for a dedicated "varmint" rifle. They are going for a about $315 in my area (without a scope of course).

think you should go for the CZ-527; reviews I've read have been positive.
CZ also makes 527s in .223

I just bought a CZ 527 carbine in 7.62x39 and I found out right away they can shoot like that even with cheap Russian ammo. Four shots around 100 yd. just over 1 inch groups with Brown Bear 124 Grain HP. I can't wait to see what it will do with better ammo, but at $129.00 for 500 rounds of Brown Bear with this accuracy who cares, this is cheap and fun to shoot! I can see the CZ becoming my favorite centerfire rifle. So far I am more than pleased with it.
I tried to find a Ruger in 7.62x39 with out success, now I am glad I read about the CZs and found one for sale closeby.
