Henry Lever Action

Does anyone own a Henry Big Boy Rifle? I'm about to pull the trigger on one. I own a Super Blackhawk and a GP100 and I'm not sure if I want to Buy the .357/.38 Special or the .44Mag/.44 Special. They are both the same price at LGS for about 7 bills. Which one should I buy and why.....................

Chief,

Not a big fan of the Henry Big Boy. Rather have a Marlin in the same Caliber Or an Uberti 73 Clone.

+1 on the Marlin! I have two of their .357s now...VERY happy with both of them.

The Marlin has a tapped receiver for a scope, but several manufacturers make peep sights using the scope-mount holes to mount them.

The Henrys are very good, made in the USofA rifles. The brass is just a bit too flashy for my liking. Right now, they don't make the Big Boy in steel frame, like they do with their rimfire or .30-30 rifles.

If the Henry is what you want you will NOT be disappointed! Get it!

Yep, I do wished they made them in Blued Steel as all my Guns are Blued.
Are they Accurate? Reliable? Smooth, gritty Action?

Chief,

Have seen and heard of lots of problems with the feeding on the Pistol Calibers in SASS. Much prefer the Marlin Action and ease of Cleaning.

The reason why I'm looking for a Pistol Caliber Rifle is when I go Hunting or to the range for convenience, one less die when I start my adventure into reloading ( One less Die I have to buy ) and I always wanted a Lever action

Ruger don't make the 96/44 and I worry about product support...............

I got the Big Boy in 44 mag/spl. Sweet gun. I think the action is very smooth. The gun looks great. Will it hold up as a Sass Gun I havent seen any reports one way or the other.

No idea how Henry's CS works for their centerfire rifles, but if it is anything close to the support for their rimfires, it is outstanding. A while back I made a klutz move with my .22 lever gun and dropped on a concrete floor breaking the butt plate and chipping the butt. I emailed Henry asking for the price of the butt plate. A couple emails with the owner and I got the butt plate shipped for free. It was attached to a new butt stock.

I haven't bought a centerfire lever gun yet, but when I do, it will probably be a Henry because of my experience with the .22.

A friend of mine has one in 44 mag. It shoots smoothly and is accurate. The Marlin is a good gun too. I would handle both and run the actions and pick the one you like the best. They are both good and will serve you fine.

I think you will really like the Henry rifles! I started carrying them in the store and so far they are a hit!! And, customer service it fantastic! I emailed them with some questions and sent my FFL to be listed on their site and they sent me a case of promotional items!! I got ball caps, long sleeve T shirts, coffee cups and a case of catalogs!!!! They are great!!!!
