380 Reloading Recipes

A little help from my fellow forum members please.

I am trying to find a good recipe for reloading 100 gn 380 ACP lead (RN) and FMJ (FN) ammo. I have 231/HP38 powder, also No. 2, No. 5, and Tight-group.

Anyone have a good recipe(s) they care to share? Yes I know, start with minimum loads, follow directions, etc., add nausea. Any help is appreciated.

OhioBrian, I started with HP-38 & Berry's 100 gr. plated bullets. At 2.9gr, the cases where sooty, so I went to 3.0gr & 1000 rounds later, all is well.

I then tested TiteGroup in .380 & 9mm. I love it in 9mm, but in the .380, except for a smaller charge weight, not much difference. I settled on 2.6gr of Titegroup for the .380 & both powders where in my range brass & S&B SP primers loaded to an OAL of.980". Good Luck. I am strickly a Hodgdon guy & can't comment on the other powders. Not much wiggle room with the .380 & charge weights.

I'm pushing a cast 100 grain SWC with 3. grains of HP-38 powder for now. It's better than the factory 380s I was using..

I just started reloading 380 a few weeks ago.

I have bullseye and 231.

I have berrys 100gr plated, some bulk purchased FMP 100 grain from the LGS (pointed nose like a FMJ, but not as rounded as a plated RN.

I have found for plinking and practice rounds in my colt mustang pockelite, it functions on 3.0 gr of win 231 and is most accurate with 3.2 grains. (haven't tried any less than 3.0, and haven't tried anymore than 3.3). I don't have a chorono but it should be under the 1250 f/s recommendation that berrys says.

I have some 90 grain XTP and use bullseye at 3.0grains with those. I've only loaded a handful of these, and haven't found any data for 231 with a 90grain xtp. I am going to try and few in the next couple of days now that my backstop is up and functioning.

What do you guys set your overall length at with 100gr FMJ? I used .980 and have some issues with the rounds hanging up in the mag of a KELTEC 3at. I am afraid to go any shorter due to incresing pressure. Hodgdon site say OAL should be .980 with WIN231. I loaded 3.0 gr.

I run Berry's 100gr at 3.0gr of win 231. Here was some from my first batch. OAL set at .980.
20 yards through a colt mustang pocket lite. This gun a pretty crappy sites, but is all stainless.

Your rims have soot in them ... this usually is an indication that you are not getting a decent seal on your reloads.

.380 My std load

95 grain lead round nose hollow point / HP38 3.3 grains / Winchester SP primer / col= .915. This load has functioned very well in every pistol I have tried.
A good clean burn not too much pressure, a great plinking load, may not be the best choice for self defense. Shows very good accuracy at the distance the .380 is intended....................... Don in SC
